Did I do good? Wested related UPDATE -GOT IT with PICS!!

Post by bowjunkie35 »

OK guys and gals! I need the opinion of you experts here. I just purchased a Wested in my size 44 regular from a private party. The guy is the same size as me so I know it will fit. I feel I got a great deal on this jacket!! I had to keep it quiet until I was sure I closed the deal with the guy as I am not sure that anyone else saw this. Here is part of the description given by the seller:

This Jacket is in PRISTINE CONDITION! There are no RIPS,TEARS,SNAGS,TEETH MARKS,STAINS .As with everything I own I treasure and take care of.The Jacket size is a 44 . I wear a medium in shirts so therefore the Jacket is a Large I am presuming .The Jacket is made of a Durable Linen lining. The inside pocket is trimed in leather..As of right now I cannot get another picture of this Jacket .I have a defective camera.

Here are some pics:

I am very excited about this as it is my first purchase towards my Indy gear!! I figure that I am going to get the most prominent and expensive stuff first so it will be easier to complete once the hard stuff is out of the way! Let me know what you think. By the way, I got this for far less than what they retail for.

Nice jacket. I saw this one on an undisclosed internet auction site, and my first thought was that it looked more like a Cooper than a Wested, because the leather looks really light in colour comparitively. Is this just the picture or does it reflect the actual colour?

Also, the seller of said jacket claimed that it was from the early 1980's, which is inaccurate, just so you know. More than likely it's from the late 1990's.

Wear it in good health, she's a beaut.

Yeah I saw the 80's thing and knew that had to be a typo. Unless the tags were swapped out, which I doubt, it's a Wested.

As far as the color. I am hoping that the bright light he used to take the pic caused it to be a little bit lighter, but weren't the Raiders jackets the lightest of the bunch? Could I not put some good leather dressing on it to darken it up?

I just contacted the seller to ask him about the color. Something I should ghave noticed right off. After throwing in my Raiders DVD again to confirm, the pics are indeed lighter than the screen used jacket. I hope my inexperience doesn't come back to bite me in the arse!

bowjunkie, just wait till it comes in. It looks to me as that appears lighter than it probably is due to intense lighting, probably due to bright sunlight through a window. Either way, it looks like a nice jacket! And worse case senario, you could always sell it towards a new Wested if you had to, but again, wait till the jacket actually comes in. Chances are it's perfect!

Thanks bink,
I just got a reply from the seller who assured me that it is way darker than the pics so my mind is at ease. Can't wait!!

The lighter colour almost looks like a predistressed cow. What leather is it?

Good find btw..

I'm sorry... what's the question? Those pics are pretty good. It's missing an Akubra though.

I am stoked guys!!! Whenever you buy something that may not be brand new, although claimed as so, it can make you a little aprehensive. (me anyway) So when I purchased this Wested at a great price, of course I expected maybe it not to be in as pristine condition as was stated in the auction. And of course, I was worried sick about the color. Although the seller assured me that it was his camera, what recourse would I have if I was not satisfied? None really, since this transaction took place privately, I knew the chance that I was taking. Well, I am happy to say, that this jacket lives up to all of my expectations and then some!! I can't believe how soft and supple the Wested leather is. This jacket is indeed in Pristine condition!! Although the desirable effect is for it to be a bit weathered, I want that to occur naturally as I plan on wearing this jacket alot!
So, I will stop blabbering and show you the pics!! Oh, and it fits perfectly!! I will take more pics of me in it when I receive my Federation this week! Can't wait!!

As I wear this jacket, I can't help but Love it! I find myself even wearing it around the house, even sitting at the computer typing messages here on COW! (Is that wrong?) Not while the wife is around though, she doesn't know I have it yet!

Anyway, I have a question. After looking at the Wested site recommendations for measuring, I noticed that the measurment for a tailored jacket 's arm length is from shoulder to first knuckle of the thumb, exactly where mine hits when my arms are at my side. The reason I checked this is because it seemed a little long in the arms. Is this where they are supposed to hit? And if so, is it just something that takes a bit of getting used to? I have looked at other pics and notice different gearheads jackets hitting them in different places. What is right here?
