Anybody got pics of how the new horse Westeds wear at all?

Post by Indiana Jerry »

I know they just came out, but I'm just about to place my first Wested order - and I'm using my first post to nail down one of my last lingering questions - how well does the horse naturally distress?

Indiana Irwin - sorry - Rob - LOVED the pics of your new horse Wested - got any good dings/rubs/scrapes yet? If so, is it a red highlight coming through, or...what?

I've been sifting through COW for a couple weeks, but I can't recall who else posted horse pics...

Thanks for any feedback, and hope not to get punted out of COW before my second post.

No one else has posted horse pics, so I'm it for now :)

The leather is very tough, and will take a while to distress naturally. Having said that, when the light hits it at certain angles, the lighter sections (such as where the material is pulled taut on pockets, etc) is a lighter red... but again, only under certain lights. In some lights, it looks a uniform dull dark brown. In other lights, it's almost maroon. It's a really interesting leather.

In some areas where I've had a good scrape, it has actually taken the brown off altogether and gone back to the leather underneath - a mid-tone kind of tan... almost a hint of orange to it, although that probably gives you the wrong idea about that I mean...

I'll try and do some closeups of this damage this weekend... I wonder if the colour/tanning on the horse isn't as thick/deep as on other leathers?

I'm gonna move forward, Rob, I know you are busy - don't worry about those pics you mentioned.

But just a question, if you have a moment - you said the horse appears as a different color underneath? Is it the same sort of shade a goat gets when it's distressed, or does the color underneath look incorrect?

That's a big driver in my decision, cause I was hoping to get an aged look through natural, if somewhat accelerated, wear and tear.

Thanks for any info at all -
J

EDIT: Rob, I ended up tying this topic in with my other about my final leather choices - sorry about that, if you pick up on this, you can follow up here, and THANKS! :)
