Hi all,
Speaking of cowhide whips, here are a couple of pics of an Indy Style bullwhip I made recently, in cowhide of course!

Bernardo,
I know we talked about this before. But do you know what
ounceage the leather is? I might try that out if i can find
some good cow. And let me know when you have another for
sale. I enjoy looking at your work.

Shane, Dan, ob1al, Adam,
Thanks guys for the kind words.
Well, this particular bullwhip was made for a customer in Indiana. He is extremely happy with it. I just cracked it a few times before sending it, and, it handled great. It cracked effortlessly and loud.
I made it a little heavier than a Morgan bullwhip, but its well balanced, so you don't really feel the weight. The whip is 8 ft long, 12 plait. It has a 4 strand point for durability. Wrist loop is 6 plait. Naturally weighted. As you can see in the pics, the turk's head knots are exactly the same as an Indy whip: 5 part, 4 bight.
The thing is that I try to make them as close as possible to a Morgan bullwhip, but in cowhide.
Adam:
I'm glad you liked her!
To answer your question, the leather is about 1.8-2.0 mm (about 4 1/2 - 5 oz), natural tan. I'm about to make another 8 footer; I'll let you know when I finish it.
Again, thank you all.

Yeah, It said "Indy Style" and I kinda equated that to "double belly." And I had NO clue how you could do a double belly out of cow, and still have it come out looking that slender!
I know a guy who has a double-belly cowhide whip and it weighs a ton! It was a single belly that his brother had made, but then decided he wanted it longer, so he did an overplaiting on it. It's HUGE! Cracks like a nuke though! Kirk's a big guy, though, so it suits him just fine.
Again, great looking work! Keep it up!
