Wested's pre-distressed hide....
Is their predistressed hide any good? The picture on their site looks a bit light... does anyone know if it comes in darker shades, or does anyone have a picture that's not a close-up?
Best thing to do is a search of old posts, there will be loads of pics and info there.

Wow. I missed Langpuss' thread there. The newer pre-distressed looks great. Mine was so light! I've given it three treatments of Pecard cream to darken it and give the leather some life but it still needs a treatment or three to get it to a darkness that's close to what I'm looking for. If my computer monitor is accurate, I really like the new look of Langpuss' pre-distressed Wested.

Wested's Pre-Distressed hide is EXCELLENT..
I've owned at least ten different Westeds over the last 4 years, ranging from their lambskin, to both cowhide choices (distressed and new finish), and their goatskins. The jackets I've loved the best (and indeed still have one of) were the pre-distressed cowhides.
Wested does an excellent job of having their hides all look a LITTLE bit different in coloration, graininess, etc....what I always liked most about them was the relative thinness from what you normally get in a cowhide.
Your jacket would look like NO other Wested distressed cowhide, because they strive to give each one a unique look and "air" about them.
So, just speaking for myself, I would choose the distressed cowhide over any other Wested leather any day of the week. And twice on Sunday.
Regards,
Indydawg

Though not a pre-distress fan myself by any means, I have to say that IndyDawg and I have passed jackets back and forth over the years, and those that were pre-distressed and had at least one treatment of Pecards made a world of difference from jacket to jacket. Each and everyone we looked at had a different 'look' to it due to the distressing and application of the dressing. Interesting stuff, and really a nice looking hide! Regards. Michaelson

Yep...
Not to mention all the EXTRA distressing that went on during the back and forth that only added to their "life experiences", so to speak .
Michaelson's right about that. The application of Pecards to the pre-distressed hide is something that works magic in making that hide darker. And they just keep getting darker with age, the more you apply, too. So, you just keep applying until it gets the shade you like it, and then wear it until it needs it again.
They are something of a "canvas" really, that you can use the Pecards to darken where you want and leave light where you don't, as well.
I just can't say enough good things about that Wested pre-distressed hide. It's just such great stuff!

LOL...
yeah, yeah....I hear ya....I only keep the ones that REALLY strike me in some special way. But most Westeds have a way of doing that, so it's hard to go wrong.
He's right, though....a more discriminating jacket collector you would be hard pressed to find. Perhaps _, but he's about as scarce around here as I am.
The Wested is at Modifications in Manchester as we speak, by the way-Rue is letting the sleeves out and giving them more of a taper....and she's adding a zipper to the inside pocket. Two weeks....a LONG two weeks.
Later, my friend!

She's good, I tell you. She took a pre-distressed cowhide Wested jacket I traded off of _ who's a size gargantium (he lifts weights!) and made it fit me (couch potato). You could not tell it was not made that way from Wested. Good workmanship for me to date. Hang in there. She'll do it right! Regards. Michaelson

I have every confidence...
I know she can do what you say...
I did want her to take out that annoying section of collar stand where it runs the length of the storm flap, but she said that would not work....so I just had her leave it. That's the only thing she couldn't do, she said.
But I thank you for giving me her number to send her my jackets....she's very nice!

Hey..no worries!
In my quest to figure out just exactly what the "small stuff" is that I shouldn't worry about...I have come to realize that stuff like that is FOR SURE, "small stuff"!
Ok....I'm outta here....gotta go pick up the Lion!
