Wested pants - the new colour

Post by Scandinavia Jones »

My new pants from Wested arrived today! :D
The new colour is great! Definitively a bit more ToD/LC...

He changed the color? Maybe he can change the way the shirts fit, too! :P

Looking good... though I'm collecting Raiders gear. Do you think this is still sufficient? I'm still heavily leaning towards getting a pair.

I don't know Shane... personally, I think Peter's first batch was more "Raiders", but others find them too light in colour... that goes for the Wested shirts, too - They are screen-accurate as in they are what you see on screen... preferrably in the Cairo scenes, where strong sunlight made Indy's gear look much lighter.

But hey - nothing wrong in mixing up the movie styles! "Eclectic Indy", as it were... in my above pic, I have a ToD holster to the Raiders pants...

You could always argue, too, that if he wore some "surplus" gear, there were variants in colour due to that, alone.

My pants were supposed to arrive today, but because I had to go to class I couldn't be home to receive them, so now I have to wait until tomorrow. After seeing these, I really can't wait! I am also very anxious to see if my shirt will fit...

Personally I like the new color more than the old one. The shirt could also be a bit darker, but anyway I like it.
Maybe Peter offers two versions soon? Raiders and TOD/LC style?

Alas, I don't think so. I asked them about this, and here's what Gerry wrote back:
We have changed the pants to a slightly darker shade and the material to 100% wool due to the comments received, but all other details remain the same.
I'm all for this new colour too - being a ToD-man... The "Raiders" version works in the summer, though.

I purchased my Wested trousers in the 'first batch', and I have to say they look more like the second pair pictured than the first - not grey at all, but a brown / khaki type colour.

How are the new pants changed from that? They look no different to me...?:?

Mind you, I have imbued a glass of vino or three this evening with friends, so I wouldn't take my POV as gospel... :-s

Are the back pockets the same on this pair? I think I remember there was a "tuck in" line on them unlike the MBA pants... :-k

EDIT: http://www.indygear.com/gear/pants.shtml Comparison of first batch Wested VS. MBA.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'll soon order myself a pair.

I'll post some serious comparison pics for you tomorrow, after I pick up my first pair from the cleaners.
I expect you're aware of the fact that you owe me a few pints after I posted them for you.

I agree... next time we see tickets for a zeppelin on sale, we'll all get tickets and do it with no pants on.

Moving on... if the pants are now 100% wool, how do they feel (itchy?) and are they okay to wash at home now?

Well, the shirt and the pants arrived today, and fortunately they both seem to fit me. I tried to take some pictures of the pants, but I'm afraid it didn't turn out very well. The color of the pants is not as light as they seem to be in the picture.

And I can't find any washing instructions on the shirt, and as it is quite wrinkly, I would like to iron it. Does anyone know what settings I should choose?

Instructions should be at the very bottom of the shirt below the row of buttons. :-k
This is what they say anyway: 100% cotton, 40 degrees, 2 dots on the old iron, do not bleach, dry clean with perchloreethylene..

I'm confused... do they offer either fabric or are they sticking to just the darker from now on?

Here we go... both pairs side by side...

Left - old fabric, right - new fabric. Oh, and Alan, you know what posting this pic means...

INDIANAMIKEY wrote:

What can I say... they're cavalry twills pants! :) This fabric used to be the material for dress pants, preferrably to be worn with a navy blue club jacket/blazer. So yes, they are dressy, but they're nothing like "modern day" dress pants...

Renderking Fisk wrote:

As far as Gerry's e-mail goes, this is the colour of the trousers from now on. Peter and several tailors I've been talking to say that there's a severe shortage of this particular fabric... nobody really wears cavalry twills any more (except for a bunch of people who... well, you know), hence the drought.
I hope Noel Howard has several rolls of the stuff stashed somewhere...

beautiful pic ! I would think that MBA is right in the middle of those two colors. Darker than the first Wested and still lighter than the darker wested.

Overall, I would prefer it darker if I had the choice ! Nice pair of pants !

:? Doesn't look very close to Raiders to me at all... but hey, I don't doubt that they're excellent pants, and at least there's something on the market for us to get. Oh well. Now, if they change the shirt to this color, too...

Dang! You posted the pics! :x

Now I'm vino free and I have a idiot-proof visual reference, which always helps in my case, I can see the difference alright. :)

Yeah, the new pair are a much darker brown - but you already said that :P - but I wonder why the change was made? They look very nice, but I wonder what or who inspired the change?

If you don't know the answer to that, you owe me 5 pints. :P

It seems that these pants are very hard to take a good picture of. I am sure mine are the same as Scandinavia's, but I don't think they are that dark. More like something in between the two pants in the picture.

Please refer to my above post answering Ren's question... no, don't. I'll quote myself, and as a result, you owe me several Imperial gallons as a token of you appreciation:

The cavalry twills trousers are endangered species... as are the gents who wore them on their strolls in Mayfair and around Sloane Square... stuff is not being made in any quantities any more. :(

If you're going for the summer leisure/streets of Cairo look (sans jacket), the old pants are just great. I too prefer the new colour - goes better with the jacket and the darker leather of the Aldens...

I wore them out for the first time just now, and felt a sudden urge to infiltrate Nazi castles in Prag or check out the latest Thuggee rave from a safe, preferrably elevated position... the new pants are really, really good! :D

Come October, I have a sneaky feeling there's going to be a sudden resurgence of cavalry twills around Sloan square.... they’ll think they've hit a divergence in the space-time continuum when we pull in. :P

Yeah, we have to be careful of that space time continuum. We could potentially create a time paradox, unravelling the very fabric of the continuum, and destroy the entire universe! Granted that's a worst case scenario. The damage may be limited to merely our own galaxy.

I e-mailed Gerry on July 17 and asked about the new colour, which was a fact already then... my guess is, you're going to get the new colour pants.

Shane

As to wool washing at home. I've done it to some thirft store wool pants and they came out fine. The thing about wool is NOT to agitate it and NOT to hang it to line dry. For itchy pants, add a little baby oil to the water or Woolite. I would suggest testing hand washing on a cheap pair of wool pants first! I think it gives a "period" look to the pants. Take your dress pants and make 'em look like Indy ones. Get rid of the creases and give them a broken-in look. Did they have dry cleaners in the '30s? (or the jungles of South America, or India, or Alexandreta)

I found a tip on the web:

Q. "Can I wash wool, even if the label says to dry-clean? "

A. "Wool fabric can be washed with a certain amount of care. Most labels suggest dry cleaning because there are a variety of fabrics and materials used in the garment construction that have different care requirements. If you decide to try washing a wool garment at home, wash it in the same manner as a wool sweater. Hand wash in cool water with a mild soap. Rinse with cool water and squeeze out the water- don't wring. Roll the garment in a towel to remove the excess water. Reshape the garment and lay flat to dry. Press using steam and a press cloth. "( a towel)
