QUESTIONS FOR PETER

Post by ob1al »

Indiana Irwin and I were talking, and the idea arose that when us EU gearheads visit Peter and Wested in October (as part of the UK summit) we could do a spanish inquisition...erm, that is to say ask him a few questions about the Indy jacket, it's origins and suchlike.

I'd like to open this up to everyone to contribute - which jacket questions would you like answered once and for all? Gussets? Lining? Yoke seam?

Whatever it is, post it here and the most commonly asked or best questions will be posed to Peter in person, in October. :)

The super thing is, if someone takes a digi, when Peter elects to demonstrate anything on a jacket in the showroom to show what he's talking about, it can also be captured that way, too. Will make a great IndyGear page. Wish I could be there!

Rob,
That's an excellent idea. There were many times when I was lost on the terms, gusset for instance. If there were photos of the different variations in sliders, collars, cuts, etc. it would be very helpful and an excellent addition to the main site.

How about the possability of offering the Cotton Raiders jacket in some other colors. I'd love to get a Navy Blue one. Dare I say, Too many brown jackets spoil the wardrobe.

I brought this up in another thread, and to OB1Al via PM, so if it sounds redundant, you read it in that other thread.

I'm glad you brought this up. The Wested jacket patterns seem to compare to a business suit jacket. Basically in fit, and form. The sleeves are attached in a similar style as a business suit. Thats part of the reason there is some ride up while putting your arms forward while wearing your Wested. Adding an inch or so will help this to some extent.
If anyone would like to see this for themselves, just put on a business suit jacket, and raise your arms forward as if in a driving position, or the infamous Frankenstien pose. Not that anyone would ever walk around like this, but you will do certain things that the sleeves may hinder movement. You will notice the same ride up on a business jacket. Also, the angle the sleeves are attached on a Wested are similar to the angle on a business suit jacket.

Ob1Al, this is one of the things I was hoping could be pointed out in person from a fan, because I'm curious as to what could be done to address this.
The jacket looks awesome in it's cut, and design. While standing with arms by your sides in a normal manner, which BTW, is how we spend about 99% of the time, it's perfect. It' just that other 1% when we are driving our cars, reaching for things, that you feel any problem.
This may be only me, but I think there are a few other COW members who experience this phenomenon.

Also, you can compare your Wested to another similar style jacket you may own, to see how that feels in sleeve ride up, and sleeve attachement.
I own several windbreaker style jackets, which are basically the James Dean style jacket that the Indy jacket was based on. None of these have this ride up problem whith arms outstretched, and I figure anyone with this style jakcet could bring it along, and A-B it next to a Wested, and ask Peter
what he thinks could be done.

Peter has already done more than a few changes to the design over the years. If he says, that it's the way it should stay, then so be it. He is the man behind THE jacket after all, and if nothing can be done, I will still wear my Wested with pride.
Just take it off while driving

Well, I'm backing Blues on this issue for sure.

If we can come up with a slight tweak which will further improve the design on a practical day-to-day basis, I'm all for it.

If Peter has made this tweak already, so much the better, but if not I'm more than happy to ask his thoughts at the summit.

File under: Miscellaneous

"Peter. how do you feel when you and your craftsmen lovingly create a jacket, then the gearhead who ordered it takes to it with sandpaper, acetate and whatever else s/he has to hand?"

Now THAT'S a good question. I'd love to see his face when he answers that one, lol.

I know! And it's a serious question. Peter will probably defer to saying that people can do whatever they want with something they've bought, but it would be interesting to see how he poses this - and to see if it leads into a discussion of what he thought of the original Raiders jackets being aged after they left his care. The question has great potential :)

I've heard rumours that the original Raiders jacket may have had an all satin lining, and that it may have had no lining at all.
Maybe Peter can recall what the real jacket actually had.

Peter has said in the past that the original jacket had an all-cotton lining - however, I'll put the question to him again as I know there has been some debate about this.

ob1al -

Couldn't hurt to verify what is currently 'standard' on the jackets now...reading back through the threads, there's been a lot of evolution in the past two years...

...getting the exact list of standard items for an update to the Jacket section of the main IndyGear page will help reduce the amount of unnecessary specs we give Peter.

(If you want the internal facings, shut up, they're already there. )

You probably already had this on your list of things to do, but just thought I'd check.

No I didn't, and it's a great question Jerry - I'll be sure to ask Peter that one first.

Yeah! That would be interesting! Also, how much input did he have in the jacket. Like, did he take directions and then just agree with them... or did he have his own solid input - possibly even overruling costumers from the film and/or Peter - with his thoughts?

Al, I'm thinking of buying another Raiders Wested but want slightly smaller pockets and would like them slightly closer toward the zipper. I've heard a rumor that this modification cannot be considered.

So, my question is the following: "Is it true that Peter will no longer accommodate requests to relocate and alter the size of the cargo pockets on a Raiders jacket?"

Thanks for looking into this!

Got another question: :D

Can Peter offer the all cotton Indy jacket in a few more colors?
Preferably black, and dark blue. I love the idea of a cotton Indy, but would like to get some more color in my closet.

"Is it true that Peter will no longer accommodate requests to relocate and alter the size of the cargo pockets on a Raiders jacket?"
I think he will if you incist, but he will not be able to alter it in case it needs some other modifications if sending it back. If you already have a jacket from Wested and you are absolutely certain about the specs, I think this could be done anyway. (I wanted smaller pockets at first too, but changed my mind.) We'll make sure to ask about it though.

IndyBlues;

Orange with pink dots you say? I'll ask him, but...

Should we start a thread similar to this one with some questions for Noel?

Regards,
Swindiana

Orange with Pink dots you say??? Hmm. Nah, I think I'd prefer Pink with Orange dots. Goes better with my Indy Pimp gear.
