Wested's Gussets... all one kind?
Just checking something here...
When you order a Wested and opt for gussets, are they automatically the two-piece gussets that everyone talks about being screen accurate (insofa as the screen jackets that had gussets)?
Or is there the possibility that they could be single gussets unless double is asked for? Recent buyers would be best to answer this, because as time goes by I believe that these tweaks start to become mainstream... eg: under the collar used to be cloth or something (???) and eventually everyone asked for it in a certain way, now it's all leather?
Any help appreciated (yes, I'm getting jitters as my jacket comes closer to being finished and people keep posting little bits and pieces about their jackets...!)

Hang on, scratch that... now I'm really confused. I just found this from Mike talking about two piece gussets:
But, the "lips" construction of the gusset actually isn't the screen accurate construction. Peter, as shown in a better version of the photo, always used a single piece of leather for the construction. FS put the "lips" in to make the gusset more functional as opposed to decorative, in their opinion.
So the two-piece might work better, but is it screen accurate, or is it just something Flightsuits made up? Is this why the Wested defaults to a one-piece?
My god, this is confusing. Fun, but confusing

Rob, I refer you again to Peter's statement below - this is direct from Peter, the man who made the jackets, so he should know what he's talking about:
'I can confirm that the gussets in the Indy films were all of two piece construction, I can also confirm that some of the jackets had gussets and some did not which is why it confuses and causes controversy.'
Despite the debate, the above quote comes 'straight from the horses mouth' , and with all due respect to everyone else's opinions nobody is better qualified than Peter to answer your question.
Maybe the design changed to 1-piece on the (gusset requested) replica jackets as standard because they are easier to make?
I just don't understand how this debate can continue; the man who actually made the jackets has been crystal clear in his statement.
So the gussets were all 2-piece and only some jackets had them, the other jackets having no gussets at all.
End of story, surely?

Al, calm down or you'll blow a gasket
All I had done was search for past posts on the topic - which seems to be a catch-cry around here whenever an old topic is brought up. It's not my fault if I come across conflicting opinions, and I pose the question of "WTF is going on here?" Curious minds want to know, and all that.

Sometimes it's difficult to express your thoughts over the internet without sounding aggitated - believe me, It wasn't meant to sound that way, I am totally calm. Heck, it takes a lot more than a little debate about gussets to rile me up!
Far from it - I'm just trying to understand (in a very calm and rational manner) why the debate continues when Peter has already answered the question, as above? Not directed solely at you Rob, but in general.
And I said 'referring you again' because I posted exactly the same quote on your 'If westeds are cut from the original pattern' thread yesterday when the gussets question came up.

Yes, I just noticed/remembered that, so zipped that question out of my post...
And I understand what you are saying - Peter is obviously the authority. When I ask WTF is going on, I mean it from the point of view that "A" has said this, "B" has said that, and "C" has said something else. Given that "B" is the authority, why does "A" say this and "C" say that, as it only serves to confuse. More to the point, how can we have three different opinions when the one true opinion has already been stated. Where do the other opinions possibly come from? Basically that kind of thinking...

Yeah, I see where you are coming from Rob - it is a bit of a Pandora's box once you take the lid off and delve around inside.
I don't think it was too long ago when Peter posted that comment, so perhaps a lot of the theories and arguments were posted before he made that statement? Could be the case I guess.
It will probably be better once all the up-to-date info is posted on the revamped main site - this should serve to remove some of the confusion with these kind of issues.
Regards,
Al

Underarm gusset, though not the "Jagger lips" config:

Come to think of it... getting a pair of Wells Lamonts with an "E.T. finger" eliminates the need for a flashlight in those dark autumn nights.

On my next hat, I'll go for the "Savalas Noggin" open crown and will also order it with a full set of "Quasimodo lumps" to achieve that perfect Raiders turn. The double kind would then be referred to as the "Jagger Lips". I'm looking to get a "Streisand Nose" on my next holster btw.
