Been a while since I had a new one, but I recall it being fairly stiff when new. Not quite cowboy hat stiff, but definitely not flimsy or floppy. It’ll soften a bit temporarily with steam.

It can be a tad tricky if you haven’t done it before, but I wouldn’t say it’s hard really. There’s plenty of content in these forums, and I’m sure you can find tutorials on YouTube.

I never knew there had been a hat shop in Louisville, I woulda loved to have checked that out :( . Since you’re fairly close, there is Batsakes hat shop in downtown Cincinnati, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about the staff there. I really hoped they would make it! It was Paul's Hat Shop, I believe. ...

I agree with Indiana Jeff, don’t change it if you love it. Vintage hats that are in good enough shape to love without needing work can be hard to come by. Also, any pictures?

The brim suits you well, you may want to try a diamond crease instead of a center dent. It can straighten a hat that has some taper, the trade off being it shortens the crown, which in this case might work well.

The original federations were 6” open crown if I’m not mistaken, and we all used to be soooo sure that the raiders crown was really tall. Over time we came to learn that we over estimated it. Its that tight, narrow pinch that throws us off. But yeah, 5.5 is much more accurate. You can lower the dent...

Looks really good! Crown is a bit tall for a raiders lid, but you did a great job with shaping it none the less! What will the crown height be on the new hat?

I can’t offer any advice really as I haven’t had too many different types of leather... but I REALLY like the skyfall jacket and if I ever have the opportunity to do a custom jacket I’m thinking it’ll be the skyfall in horsehide.

I agree with Mulceber, the thing that annoys you likely won’t stop. My Todd’s costumes jacket is more or less perfect, but one sleeve is from a different batch of leather from the rest and is noticeably stiffer. Yes, by inproved fit, the only thing I mean to change is the way it hangs. The details would remain the same. A zip-out lining is do-able, but it would require a leather facing around the opening. Well, Tex, I think that's what improved fit means. I'm pretty sure the choices are screen accurate (original details, original fit) or improved fit (original details, improved fit). Though i do think separate polls for cut and insulation would be a good idea...

SA details are just cosmetic: pocket size and placement, shape and size of the collar, middle of the storm flap, size of the yoke, storm flap, etc. Classic Raiders specs. doesn't have to be compromised in lieu of fit. I've found OTR sizes are for the most part: 34-36 S, 38-40 M, 42-44 L, 46-48 XL, ...

Screen accurate all the way. There really isn't a SA affordable jacket available, and if Todd can do it, he'd be the one to do it. I'd be interested in one for sure. That's pretty much what he offers now... It looks like he's asking us if we'd rather he stick to that pattern, or go for a new patter...

I'm on the fence on this one... On the one hand, I totally agree that the real jacket doesn't have the most practical cut. I am now the proud owner of a Todd's Standard jacket. I don't have any pictures now, and have only tried it on, but I think i will enjoy this jacket very much. The sleeves are just a TAD BIT short, but from what I've heard, they'll stretch out just fine (already have a little bit, actually).

I've noticed that the sleeves are slimmer at the upper arms than the overseas jacket. The pockets are not quite as scalloped as the overseas jacket either.
