The drain holes are just grommets.... I bought a kit at Wally-World once upon a time so I could add extra grommets to a tarp I had cut up to make smaller tarps.... the kit included a bunch of grommets, and a die and cup for placing the grommets... you would set the cup underneath, put the grommet on...

As far as your shoe soles a old shoemaker told me once to polish the soles of the shoes as well as the tops. Soles need food also !!

I'd agree about that if you were talking about a leather sole, but if a sole is neoprene, then I don't think polish is gonna help....
