Re: Herbert Johnson DoD

The hat looks so good in those photos! But that’s not what it looked like on screen to me (primarily in the tighter/closer shots — maybe it’s due to the lenses they used…). ;-)

Re: Herbert Johnson DoD

I think the DoD hat looks wonderful on the HJ site, but I have to say that the hat in the film really did not do it for me. For some reason the brim looked very small on Harrison Ford, which threw off the whole presence of the hat for me. And the crown on screen seemed quite short and had a lot more...

Thanks! Even if the felt isn’t the same, the current HJs look better made than the ones in the films following Raiders. Trying to get us back on track... One thing I’d like to say is that it took me a long time to realIze that the hat looks the way it does in the films because of, well, the hat, but ALSO (and perhaps especially) because of how it fit the man wearing it. That’s part of what makes a truly high quality ...

Just want to echo: patience.

The way a hat behaves and evolves over time in real life is so different than the fairly static impression we’re given from watching a movie, especially before you’ve owned a “real” hat.

Looks like a very well loved hat - a reblock certainly wouldn't hurt though. ;) It has required a wider center dent to get the sides to look straight. When I push out the bash you can really see the taper and the top of the crown almost goes into a point. Yeah, that's the difficulty I always have w...
