I had a Mk VII by Woods with D rings but that's the only one can recall seeing - it had other small differences from most VIIs so seems to be an exception. As you say, with so many companies making them there's all sorts of possible variations. Woods MkVII 1943 flap.jpg The Mk VI can be either brass...

Just back from holiday. Those original ones I used to sell were a 25 mm buckle with the tong removed, centre bar partly cut out and lightly sanded to provide a surface for black paint overlay. I used a MK VI for EDC for years - it has divided flapped pockets on the rear so you can stash phones, valuables, documents really safely out of sight which is a handy option. They also tend to be more durable / stronger construction than the MK VII which were pared back as much as possible for expe...

Re: Whip holder discovery in DoD
I'd figured the broken white-ish line visible above the rivets on the edges and back of the (not great) picture of the whip holder in the Den of Destiny display was stitching - but could well be a metal loop in shadow (or a totally different holder). Loops are certainly less jarring than white stitc...

Re: Whip holder discovery in DoD
I'd seen this too but the whole shoulder holster thing got me just a bit sidetracked... I think it's white stitching at the sides (so this might be the Den of Destiny & 1944 train one) so whip is permanently stitched into the holder and is non-functional - certainly one way of getting round 'whi...

Re: Indy's Raven bar shoulder holster...
I think the arm strap is brown leather at each end with a small section of grey elasticated webbing in the middle which is what we're glimpsing around Ford's right arm between the collar and armpit (as two different colours of elastic on the same strap seems less likely). That small section makes it...

One more question; I noticed that the tie-down splits from the holster into two different directions as it heads towards your waistline. Yes - the end part of the bottom of the arm strap where it joins the shoulder rig is leather but the part going around the right arm is light coloured - most likely elasticated tape: lcs ann.png So on my prototype there is leather on the bottom end of the elastic arm strap and that goes through the ...

British military canvas gear is made to be treated with 'blanco' (waterproofs and colours the canvas) so wonder if a good coat of waxed jacket wax and a go over with a hairdryer to impregnate it into the material would give you a similar result for small outlay? Top grain (smooth side of the leather) on the inside and the rear (rough side) on the outside - reverse of usual for footwear but the rough side will absorb a lot more waterproofing than the top grain.
