Re: Hat Bashing Query

That looks good to me, too...but then, I got a cowboy hat soaked today and reshaped the brim for the nth time. Hats are a work in progress for me-always redoing, fiddling and what not until I redo it all again. A good fur felt hat can always come back from a shaping error.

Re: What Price Glory Raiders shirt

I almost posted that I tired to order a large before Christmas and trading emails after learning they sold out of large-I think WPG sold around 200 shirts! Now I'm patiently waiting for the email announcing the new shirts are in.

Re: Peters Brothers custom fedora thread....

PB just got a nod in the current Texas Monthly magazine-not for an Indy; just a regular ol' cowboy hat. BUT, they were one of three manufacturers mentioned including my dream hatter (Spradley from Alpine).

Huh...thats what the hatter does every time he reshapes/reblocks my hat. I figured it was part of the process. I'll ask him about it today.

That counter clockwise thing was from me-I figured he was going to reblock so I suggested he rub the felt counterclockwise to go in the direction of the felt.

Re: Shaping a hat! Best way to go about it?

Christy's felt felt or straw? If you really want to reblock a fur felt hat, spray it with a mist of distilled water until the felt is moist, but not soaked then put the hat on the shaper and have at it-work the felt by rubbing it in a counterclockwise direction. Then let it dry on the shaper. good l...

Re: $200 to $300 budget...which jacket to buy??

For what its worth-I got a US Wings goatskin for my birthday/Christmas. The goatskin is very soft but durable (I coach lacrosse in Texas and have worn the jacket on several ball hunts into the cedar and mesquite-there are no poke holes from branches). I wear a 43 suit and I'm 6 foot 198 lbs. I recei...

Re: Getting back that new leather smell

I can't help, but, I like the comment about how the smell goes away when the jacket breaks in. My US Wings goatskin smelled so strongly I could taste the leather when I wore it...after I washed it in the washer! I was VERY happy when the smell died down a little. Maybe you can try a leather cleaner?...

Not sure where to put this-I was looking for a rucksack and came across this pack. Nice vintage look-not SA. Wish I could find it without the screen printing.

Re: Is the bottom of Indy's holster plugged or open?

The more you look, the more you learn...side by side pictures of the gun belt for the gear page link-is one picture reversed or did Indy always reattach the holster to the gun belt? The belt end is on the right in the first picture and on the left in the second.

I like it-it looks pretty close to the Stetson Weekender I converted to an Indy-style hat. The ribbon could be a little bigger, maybe. The real question is, do you like it?

Re: Pick-a-size

Yeah, not a science...more of an art! I went with a US WIngs XL goatskin knowing that I would want to wear a heavy sweater under the jacket when it gets cold. Before I washed it, the jacket seemed VERY big--especially the upper sleeves. But, after washing it in the washing machine and drying it in t...

Re: Pick-a-size

Okay--I wear a 43 suit. US Wings jackets come in L or XL. I weight 200 lbs. and I'm 6 foot but will likely drop 10 to 15 lbs in the next couple weeks. So, shoud I go L or XL? Or should I send USWings a note and ask what they suggest? Not trying to hijack the thread--it was a great question...and I a...

If you like the height of the crown on that hat, you could try tightening up the pinch and going a bit lower with it--that may make the hat look awesome!
