Re: I hope the new Indy Whip will be....

One thing I never realized about whips until I started collecting them is the longer you have them the darker they get. So if anything the old Indy should have a dark one like LC and the young Indy should have a light one like Raiders. Makes sense. Unless you consider that he has owned/gone through...

With how much the whip was not used in the last film..... I'm pretty sure it's a far far afterthought. The director, costume designer, etc probably just say, brown whip and take the word of the whip master on what kind that Indy should use as long as it's similar to the ones used in the previous fi...

10' Natural Roo in the Jones' style. I was originally planning for a Raiders, but the handle ended up too thick for that, so I placed the knot for a shorter handle in more of a Last Crusade style.

Just needed to know; how thin is the handle to the KotCS whip(in centimeters preferably)? And what plait is the handle to the whip is I'm making either a 12 plait or 16 plait? I believe the KOTCS handles are 7/8 inch (you'll have to do the math to centimeters yourself) and 12 plait. See here: http:...

Interesting to read all the views here. I, personally, find it more fun to crack a 10 footer. It is harder, for sure, but I enjoy the longer throws, louder cracks, and the overall challenge. Of course, cracking an 8 footer is very nice too. If I could only choose one I'd go with 10. But really, I wa...

I actually set it up ( as do many ) so that the plaiting goes to the end of the previous bolster ( except on the overlay ) then the leftover strands from the belly act as the core for the next layer, along with whatever bolster went over that. It works well, but again if that's working well for you...

Drop strands less often next time because the last 2-3 ft. of your whip has little no taper. Well yes and no. If the strands weren't stretched and straightened out first, then yes, a strand that curls around in the same direction as the plaiting would make sense. But since we generally cut strands as sets from a keeper, this is not possible, as half would be in the wrong direction anyways....

Direction of strand curl relative to plaiting

So it strikes me that the overal direction that your strand curls (particularly where the turn gets tighter) would plait better (tighter) if it wrapped in the correct direction around the whip. Accordingly, half the strands should curl one direction and the other the other. What I can't figure out i...
