Re: For those with experience with both satin and cotton linings..
Yeah, I typically wear my jackets with a t-shirt and I hate the way satin sleeves cling to your arms the second you begin to sweat. Much rather go through the added challenge of getting my arms in the sleeves on the odd occasion when I'm wearing long sleeves. Cotton sleeves all the way.

Thanks Michelle! I'm glad to hear this issue was resolved. My criticism wasn't meant as a dig against your current offerings - I follow HJ on instagram and all of the hats I've seen in the last few years have looked fantastic.

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
My basic philosophy with the Indy hat is that because Ford was a 58, the sweet spot in terms of *extreme* screen accuracy is in the 57-58-59 range. 60 and above or 56 and below and you're generally going to have to make some concessions somewhere. But at least too high is easily tweaked with a shot...

Agreed - it's even more egregious from the side. That said, mine was purchased in the first months after HJ revamped their offerings, so it's entirely possible they've ironed out that kink by now.

HJ actually offers a reproduction if you ask for it: https://www.instagram.com/p/BURbAmQgWRO/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I get the sense that the costumers for YIJC weren't as detail oriented as they are in the movies, since it's actually pretty different - wider ribbo...

Re: Help with Relic Hunter
I still vote add 1 inch in length if you are concerned. But no more than that. The Relic Hunter and the original Nowak Raiders jacket are meant to have shorter back lengths for the exact reason stated above. That said, I really appreciate the extra inch on my Relic Hunter. Since the shoulders seams...

I'll second what Forest for the trees said. That being said, I know Andy's jacket is REALLY off the shoulder, effectively making the hem fall further below the waist, so I'd still go by his advice. Re: Help with Relic Hunter
Not sure about the exact measurements, but the Relic Hunter has a very short back length in general because of its extreme off-the-shoulders effect. Rest assured, that 22.5" will sit lower than you'd expect. The problem may also partly be that you've been wearing Indy jackets at the wrong lengt...

Re: Raiders Hero Pit to Pit Question
There's all kinds of opinions on what the relationship of pit-to-pit and size should be. Most makers take that to mean that a jacket should have a pit-to-pit measurement that would fit a person whose chest circumference equals the size (i.e. if it's a size 40, it should fit someone with a 40" c...

Yeah, the 26" that the OP quoted for his previous jacket is HUGE. I'm 6'1'' and wear a size 40 or 42, and 26" is too big for me. The Raiders jacket's really supposed to be a basically waist-length jacket...

At present, Five Star is out of horsehide (restocking in the new year), but both their goatskin and cowhide are pretty nice. I think they’re your best bet. From what I gather from the first post, Baddates is looking to spend about what he would on a Wested.

Depends on your location. If you're in the states, John Penman is probably your best bet. In Europe, you could probably send it back to HJ.
And stop handling it by the pinch! You'll end up with a hat that looks like this:

A Penman? Absolutely. Also probably an S&J. I would take the Penman over the HJ any day as I think the construction is better, and either of them over the HJ if I was looking to replicate a specific scene, as I don't think HJ has really mastered that. HJ has the pedigree and their materials are ...

My recommendation would be either Penman or S&J. The ones I’ve seen from them have been the best. The real trick in making a SoC hat is the mushroom effect: in the film it’s actually rather subtle. Fedoraiders had a post a year or two ago where he showed that the reverse taper is only on one sid...

Yes, I know it’s not a repro. Charybdis, however, said he was thinking about it because he can’t justify buying a BK repro, which suggests he is interested in a repro jacket. If that’s the case, then Dubow would be a better alternative. :toh:
