A scalpel with a #11 blade works great for cutting and skiving. You can buy the blades for around $12.00/box of 100. I usually hit them a couple licks on the buffing whell to get them really sharp, and then as needed depending on how much I've been cutting. After a ferw times, throw them away and ge...

Use a double boiler set-up. I use a large pot with a couple inches of water and put in a 3 lb coffee can into the pot. Bring the outside water to a boil and you reduce the boil over point of the water in the coffee can. It will simmer more than boil. Plus the clean up is a lot easier. I use the same...

Whipmakers; Is it possible to make a cow-roo hybrid whip? Could you be a bit more specific? Redbeard, Two things might be contributing to the demise of your fall. One you alluded to is the use of force. The whip will rack with less force but maybe not as loud. Also it may be the way you are tying on the cracker. It you are sliding the cracker onto the fall and then tying a knot, the cracke...

Kris, I am sure most would agree that a 6', 7', or 8' are the standard to learn on. Upon closer look at the fall attachment, it looks as if it is not a replacable fall. It looks like the core extends the full length to the cracker, and the overlay thong was ended and tied off and even has a couple of stitches through it. This method would cut down on the drag by being a bit more ae...
