I was sorry to read that Steve had passed away.
Made me retrieve my AB hat that he made for me in 2012. I’ve not been wearing it as much as I should - I’ll have to rectify that.

Re: Why are Optimo hats so overpriced?
Personally my most expensive hat purchase (a Panama hat from Optimo) was the worst deal I ever did. At the time I think Optimo was going through growing pains and now I think of them as a factory hat rather than a custom hat maker. There are plenty of other places to get custom hats that are less ex...

Smart move ordering the Garrison. I have the rabbit version and it has been subjected to rain, snow, heat, sweat and is still looking as good as new.
At the price David charges it is just a fantastic deal.
I hope you'll be posting photos when the hat arrives.

It was more of a Whippet design (with the bound brim and all) than an Indy hat, but it was quite nice. http://www.photo.uniqueday.com/Other/Tests/i-FSBj73L/0/L/D33_5320-L.jpg http://...

A - a lot of vintage Stetsons (like the St Regis) are among the best hats ever made.
Stetson hasn't made hats for years (the ones with the Stetson name sold these days are made in Texas by Hatco). It is these modern "Stetsons" that have the poor reputation.

Personally, I was surprised when I first read that the Raiders open crown was 5 1/2 inches high. I think the block shape helps create the illusion that...

OK, I have to man up and make a confession here. My dear wife is the proud owner of a woven straw (I use the term loosely, I think it is that paper fake straw stuff really) hat in just that style. I'm pretty sure it is a $5 made in China hat, but she seems to like it. Have a great Christmas everyone!

I'm a fan of Major Moore - He makes great hats and I've seen some of the really generous things he has done that go above and beyond.
One day, I'll get a hat from him (or Hay-at as he says it ) but it won't be an Indy hat. I'd stick with Delk, Penman or Garrison for that.
