Re: Seeking Advice on Fed IV Deluxe sizing

I've actually just gone through an emotional rollercoaster of buying a Fed IV, and I had a similar initial reaction to you. It felt WAAY too big, despite me having sent them my measurements. Now, I had heard that they do shrink over time, but this felt like it had a looooong way to go. I did express...

Re: Fed IV Durability

My suggestion would be to turn on a space heater in a small room such as the bathroom or closet, totally soak the inside and outside portion of the hat where the ribbon and sweat are and leave it to dry for a few hours. Trust me, I had the same problem with my Fed being too big but the heat solved ...

I've posted this in the past, but will do so again as a suggestion to keep in mind next time you order......give them your exact head measurement and ask them to match a hat to that measurement, instead of just giving them a hat size. That way they have to pull out a tape measure and check a hat be...

Re: Fed IV Durability

Return policy no good with hats direct? You can't exchange for a smaller size? Unfortunately no once it's been bashed. To be honest I found the experience a little frustrating because they advised me to bash it and that it would probably shrink/fit/look better once that was done. Of course, once th...

Just got a Fed 4 Deluxe this eek and was surprised how soft and floppy it was. Nothing like the Standard I picked up here on the forum. Is yours new from Hatsdirect? Turns out you're right - by this morning it had stiffened right back up!

It is really stiff, although I don't have anything to compare it to. It does feel like a solid piece of art that sits on my head, which I kind of like. It feels like bullets might bunch off this thing! \:D/

Make sure your center debt are at 4 1/2 in the front and 4 in the back. Once you get that set then start the side dents. Try tweaking as you go rather then putting in anything too sharp. Thanks! I would not go smaller myself. Man it is so easy to add more foam then to have a hat too tight and even using a hat stretcher or size retainer will (could) mess it up. Thanks Jeremiah! Okayyyyy... so I just got my fed 4, and it does feel quite big. Even with some (but not all) the foam padding in it feels a bit like it's hovering around my head. Can anyone say from experience whether that's normal for a new fed 4, and it will shrink up with time, or should I go for a smaller size?...
