Re: Bullwhips!

Well, it's a VERY nice whip! And to prove it, I got a custom Euro vanity plate for my new MK6 Golf: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3922/14418246381_7712cff2a6_z.jpg Since 'whip' is slang for a sporty car, and also in the literal sense, a bullwhip (my favorite weapon). So it's perfect! :whip: Hahaha...

I've been sun tanning my JM 16-plait Indy, darkening the leather to match my vintage DM. I had Jeremy replace the original fall with a custom bridle leather fall by MakeItJones. Also pictured here is the Wested custom LC I bought from Zoltar, a vintage unissued Whiteley's bag w/ MIJ LC strap, and c...

I just wanna add to the conversation and say that i agree with blake. Thats what he needs to get for it on ebay. Any unused whip made by david calls for a high price! Thats amazing! That with the fact that ebay is going to take one large chunk and $3000 is sounding rather good...

Just wanted to share pictures of some of the whips I've recently made. The first, some of you have already seen, is an 8' 16 plait replica of the "classic" Indy series that David Morgan had in the late 90's. http://imageshack.com/scaled/640x480/842/6vzn.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.com Nex...

You should get a fall made of whitehide or redhide or something like that. As long as they're greased every so often you won't have a problem with them breaking.

Re: Awesome new Joe Strain whip

If you have an Australian style bullwhip or stockwhip, you probably need a lighter fall. American style ( joes are called lone star ) or Indy style bullwhips probably need a heavy fall. Still it'll probably be best to ask joe himself. He'll know for sure seeing as he made the whip.

A few months ago on another forum there was a newer nylon whipmaker starting to experiment with wax. Hey Misa, the whip looks great. I agree with Aldo about the fall hitch. Here's a good video that gives the general idea for tying a fall hitch. I do mine pretty similarly:

Something like this recently came up on another forum. If you can get the name of the original owner, you can ask the people at David Morgan. They were able to track a whip made in the 80's just from the buyers name if I remember right.

Franco, the fall on the 4' is 24" long. The action is very nice, although it takes me a minute to adapt since all the whips I regularly use are 7' and up ( my most regularly used are 8 and 10ft ). It's a very fast and smooth crack once I get used to it. When I first finished it and test cracked...

A tiny bit, yes. But neither will crack like a proper whip or hold up anything like a proper whip. Their price is their selling point, not their quality. Between the two.... uh... todds. But neither are really useable. Todd's are more screen accurate than magnoli whips, but both are definitely not made for use. Strict costume pieces. Yes it does. In my experience, it sort of seeps out in between strands. If it's literally covering each strand ( sort of a thin layer of residue on the strands ) then that's just plaiting soap that was never cleaned off, or a mixture that didn't agree with itself ( there is a lot of leeway with plai...

It'll work its way out over time. No need to remove it before giving it leather dressing. My whips used to spew, but they very rarely do anymore. I wonder why... I'd suggest getting a Todd's costumes whip then. Since you don't want to crack, and want a nice costume piece, theirs is exactly what you want, plus their pricing is great for what they give. They definitely look better than jrzjoe whips.
