It's a dual edge razor, very much like Swindy's. The handle unscrews to release the headpiece and the blade. Just for the record, a DE safety razor is no more likey to cut you than the modern double, triple, quadruple blade saftey razor. I have a mach3 as well as DE razors and I get the better shave...

I agree. The current Ruggeds are perfect in color right out of the box. The old newbuck looking ones lost their 'fuzzy' look pretty quickly with some adventurous wear though. I still have my pair from two years ago and they look...well used. They still have some good miles left in them though...

How long does it take to break them in? Mine really need to break in around the inside of each heel and around the sides of the feet. Most of my shoes are either pull on boots or soft leather justin chukkas. About two days to loosen them up so they don't feel stiff. After a couple of months of regu...

There's a pretty good pic of his brush in the link below. The bristles are solid black on his final product though. I love mine...just wish I'd bought two now.

They go for as little as £5 - £10 (about $8 - $16) in surplus shops, so someone is making a big profit. Alan Now if it had been a US gas mask bag instead of a UK bag the shoe would b...

My first hat was one of the Miller types. They're OK, but they do shrink and taper too easily. Mine has shrunk to the point that it was too small for me to wear. Now it sits in display only mode next to my other gear. From others I've seen I'd have to give a nod to the Akubra as well. They see...

What is your size? How much did you score them for, if you don't mind me askin'? I agree about the Jcrews being a way better deal than the Aldens. No tread? What do you mean? I was referring the the 405's. IMO, they look very similar to the JCrew Ruggeds that can be had for $40 during the clearance sales. I can't see dropping the extra cash just for the 'Alden' name. I'd much rather buy the Ruggeds too. My current pair is 2 years old and goin...

You didn't meantion if this is a new or pre-owned hat. If it is new, I'd strongly suggest adding padding to the sweatband and just wear it for at least a month as the band will shrink slightly and conform to your head. If you artificially shrink it when new you may run the risk of getting it too tig...

I wasn't looking at them as hiking boots. I have a hard time justifying spending $300 on a pair of boots with no tread on them. rugged Alden boots
A search on here turned up very little on these, but here's a pic from the the Alden of Carmel site. Of course they're over $300!
They look like the 405's after they've been resoled and darkened.
Anybody have these?

dressier version of Alden-style boot
I've been expanding (yeah right...that's starting) my Indy dress clothes wardrobe lately and I found these at Jcrew that may make for a nice 'boot' that looks like a dress shoe.
