Thank you for the inspiration Holt and Tundrarider. Tundrarider, I used the method you posted above to distress my Todd's strap. (Beating the bend with a hammer after slathering the strap with Pecard's.) I liked the results so much I used the same method on Todd's weapons belt. Here are the results....

It doesn't look bad, it looks pretty similar to how my Fed III looked when I got it. I would strongly recommend watching John Penman's videos on shaping a hat for the next step. His methods worked well for me.
