Re: I can't use my whip!

You have my sympathy, I had shoulder surgery last September and spent two months in a sling, with another two months of physical therapy. Luckily, it was my right shoulder and I'm left handed. But it was still very frustrating. Depending on the nature of your surgery, take it easy, and do all the ex...

Re: Shorty, where's my razor?!

I use the Merkur brand DE razor blades. Individually wrapped, small white plastic dispenser, sharp, clean edges. I also used the Headblade thing when I was deployed in Iraq to keep my scalp shaved close. Takes a couple of times to get the hang of it, but it works well enough. Still need a regular ra...

Might be a bit OT, not sure if it should go in another razor thread as posted by VP... It is often claimed that Secret of the Incas w/Charleton Heston is an influence on the Indiana Jones movies. There is a scene where Heston's character arrives at Machu Picchu, he gets a chance to clean up or "...

David Morgan, distributor of Akubra hats in the US, offers the same warning on his web site and in the hat care booklet that comes with his hats, about handling the crease too much causing wear to the felt. http://www.davidmorgan.com/hatcare.html 8-[] Have any of our hat makers weighed in on this, J...

I'd like to chime in as the past owner of an Akubra. While it was not a Fed IV (they didn't make them back then) it was (I think) a Snowy River. I purchased it down-under on a business trip to Sydney about seventeen years ago. That hat was the nicest hat I ever owned (until my Henry shows up next we...

Re: Are fedoras making a come-back in your area?

I live in a nice area in Denver, within easy walking distance of shopping and eating. The average age of the population is probably in the low 60's, maybe higher. A lot of the older gentlemen routinely wear hats, some fur-felt fedoras, some obviously nicer more expensive, and some that look to be we...

I gave John my exact head measurement for my Henry and he told me not to worry. I trust John in the size he chooses for me. Even if it feels a tad loose at first, based on what people are saying, these hats tend to 'shrink' over time (how and why does a hat shrink?) I did the same thing, and at thi...

Does the Henry come with a Hat box? I can't remember if I read somwhere that it did or not. At one point they came with a Penman bengaline hat box. Re: Anybody feel like their Henry fits a little big?

Well, I followed John's advice when ordering my Henry. I measured out at exactly 57 cm (go figure). I rechecked multiple times to be sure on John's recommendation. When measured in inches on the same tape measure, it's just shy of 22.5 inches, so 22.44 is dead on. In my military head gear I vary fro...

In my experience, you do not always get a "better" watch when you spend more money, you just get a name on the dial, and whatever prestige is attached to that name. Ron521, I'll have to second that experience. I have had a similar history with my Omega Speedmaster and have friends with va...

Re: Attaching the cracker, 4 methods. Which one is yours? POLL

My whip came with the popper attached using method #2. It came off after a few light cracks. So I dutifully re-attached it using #2. It came off again. Then I used method #3 (which I found outside of COW), and it has stayed on every since. Plus, it seems easier to tie somehow.

I would like to say that your ammo should be .45 ACP 230 grain FMJ loaded to normal speed of 830-850 f.p.s.. POI should be POA 10 yards in. Agreed. That loading in the fairly heavy 1917 should be very controllable. FYI (for those that are acronym challenged): POI = Point of Impact, where the bullet...

Re: Who actually shoots their 1917 revolver?

Basically, if the barrel is OK (i.e not pitted or worn smooth), and the sights are functional, once you get a good grip, watch your trigger squeeze and don't let the report/recoil affect you, great results can occur. That's really it: getting a good drip on the revolver and paying attention to the ...
