Re: Fixing a bow

Not a great looking bow. I'd take it off, and relocate it, stitching it on more properly. Yes, the liner must come out, and the actual ribbon might need to be moved if there isn't enough under the bow to cover the hat. But doing a ribbon and bow is fun, and gets easier and better looking with practi...

Here's a refurb Mike did for me. This was a thin ribbon Open Road style vintage Borsalino. I have several of them already so I had Mike dress this one up by putting on a wider edge binding and a 2 inch black ribbon. fedoralover http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v683/fedoralover/DSCN0965_zpsd065818e...

Re: How to fix bash relaxing

Hats hold their shape much better with some moisture applied while shaping. I use a spray bottle with distilled water. It takes a little longer to dry and set than steaming, but there is no danger of shrinkage due to heat. When I feel the need to reshape a hat, I do it when I've taken it off at the ...

The more I look at both of our hats, the more I like the LC pinch.

I just now modified my carbon gray, also. It's now about half way between a Raiders and an LC.

So my brown is Raiders, Tawny Fawn is LC, and carbon gray is midway.

Interesting to me to read this^^ because just two days ago I redid my Tawny Fawn Fed IV from Raiders to LC, widening out the bottom of the front pinch.

I'm slightly ambivalent about it, but will leave it for a while to see how I feel about it.

Oxyclean works on many types of cloth. If the rayon is water washable, then I'd use the same OC process on it. I spray stuff with OC that I wouldn't put in a washing machine.

Although, you might want to try it on a very small spot of it before doing the whole thing.

I will never again send my jacket into a place that 'cleans' leather. I did it and was horrified at the results. For the exterior, a good wipe down with a cloth and some mild soap and water, and then a rub with a Lexol or Pecards will do. For the inside, I spray it down, including the inner sleeves,...

Sounds like a good idea. Would you push out the crease or leave it in? Pushing it out would enable your forms to be used with other hats. Leaving it in would limit it to one hat, but the hat's crease could be maintained longer (although I don't ever recall the crease of a hat of mine changing just b...

pdraycott, FedIVs start out pretty stiff. Two solutions to your 'problem': Wear it. As it softens it will take on some more natural curves. Take the hat in your hands and mush it around it a bit. This, too, will help it take on a more curvacious, relaxed shape. If you're not comfortable mushing up a...
