I have one of his 8 plait budget whips and I really like it. Fantastically accurate and very well made.

Here's Ben Hughes doing the Messerschmitt. It's a little more than slightly impressive.

Re: Wild West Whips
I have been debating one of the Tella budget whips for a while. The reason I hadn't yet was because it seemed like too good a deal to be true. Haven't been able to find many reviews of his work from sport whip crackers. But now I think my mind has been made up. Thanks guys.

Re: The Slow Figure 8 is slowly driving me maaaaaad
Louie's advice is spot on. I'm a beginner myself and what helped me learn the slow figure 8 was just practising the reverse cattleman's crack. Here's how I learned how to do it. Starting with the whip laid out straight in front of you, pull your arm back under itself and bring the whip up pretty fir...

Re: LOOONNGG Whips. Purpose?
One of Steve Huntress's older blog posts is about Inuit whip cracking. If I remember correctly, there was a video of a guy cracking a 15 or 20 foot seal whip and hitting cigarettes. The article he linked to was about a guy who actually used it for hunting. It was really interesting if anyone wants t...

Re: soaking leather in melted paraffin wax??
I'm actually kinda interested in this as well. Have absolutly no skills involved, either whip making or experience working with wax, but do love experimentation. Could be a complete and total failure or it could work. What's there not to be excited about?

Re: Whip Basics Signature Series
I like your explination of the different materials. Skill is skill. Period. Great paint doesn't make someone Van Gough. And napkins with doodles by Picasso go for a mint. As for the other stuff, I haven't a clue about soul or no soul. In the market for a whip, but have yet to take the plunge. Found ...

Re: Whip Basics Signature Series
The nylon stock whip is gorgeous looking. The question it makes me ask is why don't more people make them?
Sorry, have been lurking for a while and this is my first post. But dang, those are some nice looking whips.
