Re: Swoosh and...........

For the cattleman's crack - sweeping the whip up in front then back behind you is just a "wind up" to get the whip hanging in the air behind you before you bring it forward. Newbies usually wait too long (so the whip starts to settle to the ground behind them) or not long enough (so the wh...

Re: Whip Popper/Cracker

Consider buying some polypropylene "twine" (construction line/string/etc) from a hardware store and make your own. Takes about two minutes per cracker and only requires scissors (to cut) and a pen (to help twist).

(I realize this isn't answering your question, sorry.)

Inexorable - are you happy with the 9 foot length? I was looking at that as well. does it still handle well for you at that length? In your opinion, is that a happy middle ground? It's a mixed bag. Definitely handles as a longer whip (more like 10 foot) but not quite as sluggish. As much as I enjoy...

I have a 7' Rhett Kelly. His whips are great quality. You'll be fine. IMHO, the handle length and thickness is pretty much irrelevant. Other factors - leather vs. synthetic, balance, thong length, fall length, popper - seem to be more of a difference, unless you're to the extremes of a snake whip or...
