The pre-d stuff doesn't seem to have any substantial grain or character about it and never seems to hold any creases. Plus mine had a strange odour that never went away and was really noticeable the warmer it got, and no it wasn't body odour.

If it's the pre-d cowhide it never really develops any grain tho'. Nice hide but not as "character-ful" as the lamb or goat. It'll always feel a little rubbery as well. I've had mine 4 years and it's never really changed.

Re: Wested 'Hero' vs. 'Special Hero:' (update)
Gotta agree with that. The hero collar is too large. I don't care if it's a second generation copy from a screen used piece to my eye and looking at all the forum members iterations of this jacket it's too wide. With thinner hides it's tolerable, with thicker cowhides it's very dumboesque.

Re: Jacket measuring
Despite the lack of customisation on the Hero I think that, despite the labelled chest size, I did stress I wanted a pit to pit of 23, I'd be interested in their response to your email. As this is the Wested flag ship product they should be more consistent with the sizing.

Obenauf's? Not heard of that one. I'll research further and see if I can source some in the UK. It's strange that with all the lamb jackets on the site no one's complained about this infernal creaking. I sound like the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter when I move.

Two week old lamb Wested, It was a lil bit noisy from new and kind of rubbery. It's had a light rain shower treatment and an acetone rub to take the shine off and now it's driving me insane! It's creaking like a man'o'war at high tide. Has the leather dried out so much it needs conditioning already?...

If you want a slimmer look to the jacket measure pit to pit on a jacket you're happy that fits you. I have a Wested Hero that's 46" chest labelled and pit to pit is 23". It looks and feels slimline as I had long arm measurements as a request. I've recently purchased an old pattern ROLA Wes...

Interestingly the current Raiders offering from Wested shows an even larger pit to pit measurement for a 46 chest in the "slimmer pattern" at 26"! No wonder buyers are confused with measurements. Anyhoo I did purchase the one I had my eye on and it arrived next day, so hats off to Wes...

Wested distressed cow hide leather owners. Weird smell?
Bit of an odd query this. I've had my Wested hero pre-distressed for about 7 months now.
