The main problem I have with dropping strands is going from 6 strands to 4 - you're starting from 6 strands braided around the core (1 strand for an arbitrary example number) and if you drop 2 strands at once you're suddenly going to 4 strands braided around 3 strands as you tuck the dropped strands...

I use diabolo string. It's about 1mm thick and I'm fairly sure it's nylon. it's definately some sort of synthetic cord. I find it doesn't tangle easily at all and it's very hard wearing. I don't use either of the 4 options in the poll - I use a Double Sheet Bend instead. I don't use twisted crackers though (I use 1mm braided nylon string), so I had to find a way to tie on a single strand of cord - the double sheet bend seems to give a good trade off between security and size of knot.

With nylon, you can skip all that fiddly "Cutting/Beveling" business, but you've STILL got to weight it properly, and as I've pointed out with the several dozen paragraphs above, with nylon, that's more an intuitive "felt" skill than an exact science. Nylon inherently doesn't ha...
