Well Misa, it looks great to me! I still remember when you posted your first whip.
The only thing I'd object to is the fall hitch. But those are a bit difficult to make right, and require some practice.
Keep working on them, you're doing great!
Thanks for sharing,

Those two whips are great, Basil! Joe is one of the best whipmakers in the USA. I noticed the whip in the first pic has a straight section beyond the transition knot. Is it stiffer at that point? It seems to bend beyond 2-3 inches from the handle.

I understand what you mean Gunslinger. Over here, in Mexico, they used to sell really stiff rawhide whips. Folkprophet, you did a great job figuring out the 6-stran flat braid! Even though the shape of the TH knot isn't exactly "Indy" it seems very comfortable for the hand. As Franco wrote, it resembles the Australian practice of shaping knots. These are more discreet than the bulky knots found...

I understand what you say, Jeremy. Being flat, it can't cut as easily as a single thread. Pressure distributes along the surface. The good side of using one thread is that it sinks deeper into the leather, binds tighter (perhaps?), and sits flatter after rolling it. Doesn't David use thread instead ...

I used to bind over bolsters almost exclusively, then I tried Franco's suggestion about not doing it and the whip turned out smoother, easier to plait over, and better working, so I never went back. Also, when I say easier to plait over, I don't just mean the smoothness of the plait, I also didn't ...

As far as I know, English kip is oiled too, so I don't know what kind of material James used. Basing myself on what Jeremy wrote, is that drum stuffed leather (already oiled before being worked into a whip), is given an additional dressing with plaiting soap. This perhaps helps it retain its moistur...

One small observation: the fall on your whip seems thicker than the point of the braiding. I would think that makes the whip harder to crack. Remember that faux-leather is synthetic and is lighter than leather. You may even feel a "jerk" at the end of the crack. Try to match the base of th...
