Yes, especially when you have only one lacing needle and you need to work backwards 13 strands
But all in all it's worth. My brown belt I made from the cord I use for Indy whips is my favourite to wear. My wife has 4 belts I made for her plus 1 roohide belt I bought her years ago

Braided belts are pretty universal. You don't have to make any new holes if you need longer belt.
They are quite demanding to make though, I think I can make a 4 ft bullwhip faster than such belt.

Knot size depends on the tie's width and thickness, so if the tie isn't too narrow it will look good with 4 in hand knot.

My 2021 Legacy Raiders have the same pocket flaps as yours. Bottom layer is stitched and cut off even with the upper layer, about 1-2 mm from the stitch. Nothing is coming apart after 3 years.

Unfortunately that would be not enough for a roohide Indy bullwhip.
But as Indiana Jeff mentioned you can check out nylon whips. I can make you one. Check out my work here: viewtopic.php?t=70889

What's your budget? I think it is the most important factor.
Are you after a proper roohide Indy bullwhip or a nylon one would do just fine?

Re: Whip thickness/diameter? Weight?
Hi! Properly made kangaroo Indy style bullwhip (kiphide core and lead loaded spike foundation, two plaited roohide bellies, two kiphide bolsters and roohide overlay) results in a fairly heavy whip. I'd say it should weigh between 600 to even 1000 grams, depending on its length. My del Caprio 8 foote...
