Well, if it's a matter of the leather surviving, then you'll need to bite the bullet and put some Pecards on to rehydrate the dried out hide. I'd recommend using the jell, though. There is Mr. Hats in Memphis TN. I've only been in a couple of times, but it was for supplies, not a hat. I can't really speak to the quality of their hats, but I don't think any of them are custom jobs.

Reading this gives me some comfort. When I recieved my adventurebilt, I looked at it and thought "will this really stand up against all they say it will?" It's a beautiful hat, but it feels so thin and light.
