Re: Sweat band/general hat care

Just checked out the Pecard site. I'm overwhelmed with the variety of products. I have two hats, a 4 yr old Adventurbilt and a 73 yr old Dobbs which has a thin, but still supple sweat band. Which would work for these?

Dropping strands 6 to 4

I am in the middle of the first belly on my nylon whip. I somehow managed to drop from 8 to 6 and have it look decent. I cannot figure out how to drop from 6 to 4. I have 3 strands on either side and I have been going U2, O1. I know the final result of dropping to 4 is U1, O1, but which strands get ...

Re: Nylon whip core, BBs, ball chain, e-cord???

Thanks, Yes, I jammed the BBs into standard 550 paracord. It took about 3 hours, but I did it while watching a movie so it wasn't too bad. The first dozen or so I did by hand and it was really slow. For the rest I got them into the cord, then clipped a ball point pen over the cord and use it to slid...

Re: Nylon whip core, BBs, ball chain, e-cord???

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up using a BB loaded paracord core. I am making a 7ft whip for my son. 8" spike with a BB core going out about 42". 8 plait first belly and plan on running it out to about 4.25'. Once that's done, I plan on a 12 plait belly out to 5.5' then the final...

Nylon whip core, BBs, ball chain, e-cord???

OK, I'm getting ready to start making my first nylon whip and I have a few questions. I plan on using a BB loaded core. Most of the tutorials I have seen use multiple ball chain cores of different length to get some tapered weight, or they use electrical cord and drop out wires to get the taper. The...

Anyone in the Seattle / Tacoma area have a whip I could borrow for halloween. So far, I'll be wearing my AB hat, Wested custom goatskin, WPG shirt, Eddie Bauer close enough pants and my Todd's bag. All I'm missing is a suitable whip. My son has one of the sound FX whips that I could use in a pinch, ...

Where to get Nylon whip

So I've decided I finally need a whip to add to my Indy experience. I live in Seattle and want something that will hold up well to being cracked over concrete, gravel, dirt, whatever and hold up in the weather. From what I've read, nylon would be the way to go. So Where can I find a good nylon whip?...

Todd's Standard question

I am looking to get my first Indy jacket and am drawn to the Todd's Standard due to price and accuracy.

My question is: Will this hold up to daily wear? I mean I don't plan on getting dragged behind a truck or anything, just daily wear to the office, errands, out on the town, etc.

Thanks

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but try ebay for vintage fedoras. I picked up this one several months back for $25. Its a 70 year old Dobbs. Fur felt, Cavanaugh edge, and extremely soft felt.

What happens when a hat is re-blocked?

I have a vintage dobbs hat that I am interested in getting re-blocked. What all happens when you get a hat re-blocked? Does the ribbong get taken off? Does the sweatband and liner come out? If so, are they usually replaced or just cleaned up and put back in?

Thanks

I picked up a vintage (early 40's) Dobbs earlier this year and it is extremely soft. For the most part it holds its shape, but it is quite easy to modify. I'm sure some of it has to do with it being 70 years old, but I am pretty sure the hats of the day were made with less stiffener.
