ARRGH! you guys kill me. Every time I think I have my hat just right I see a pic of someone who has a better bash- then I have to spend half an hour re-shaping and fiddling with mine...

So I've had my 59 fed for about a week and it's gone from dropping straight down onto my ears to a perfect fit- the clincher was the lampshade trick- I wet the entire band and felt behind it and put the hat on my large drafting table light (incandescent). The inside circumference of the sweatband is...

It definately varies on the internets...
But to my eye when looking at the Fed outside in the sunlight there is no grey or green tint to the felt. Have to see how this hold up as I
I put some wear on it.

Looks good. What's that tank thing they are sitting on? It's quite big. It's always interesting to see someone's bookshelf, too. Can tell you a lot. One minute earlier than the next reply and yet the post didn't show on my computer last night- odd... Yeah, all the history, WWII, Pinup, and v...

That's a great cat- my ex found her outside work late one night cold and hungry. Been with me ever since (the cat, mind you).

Fed sizing info and Hatsdirect.com service

Thought this might be useful for some of us other newbies. I ordered my first real Federation Regular on Friday after I got home from work. By 10 P.M I had TWO replies about sizing- and I didn't even ask them a question! First response: [[Hello Mark, many thanks for your order. We have had a high nu...

Thanks Mark. I love those thrift store treasures you can find sometimes. Lots of junk but occassionally a nugget. Hey, when you are wearing any of those hats do people ever say anything to you? Like say that Bancroft cap? best Gary[/quote] Not really- usually I'm riding my sidecar bike or driving my...

Mostly e-bay- some of the best are just thrift store finds that I've held on to since the '80's... Tha white hat is a vintage Bancroft USGC petty officers hat, I probably wear that more than the Fedoras these days for some reason. I believe the pith helmet is WWII dated but I'll have to look at it a...

I have a small collection- The brown fedora in the middle is the closest I have to an even remotely Indy-esque hat. I've tried to bash it a few times but the felt is so soft it won't hold the shape- After reading this thread I now find that I MUST have an Akubra Fed... If anyone has a 7 1/8 to trade...

Ditto- I had the large on a rain check, but just got a letter from SG refunding my money- said their supplier didn't come through. Has anyone picked up the medium? What size are they really?

Ah- maybe that's why mine was a "clearance" jacket- the batting was only at the ends of the arms and around the armpits...

Still think it looks better without the stuffing though.

The XL might be the way to go for a 36-36, to get the length, but you will probably have to have the waist taken in. These pants are in lots, so size is kind of approximate...

As far as I know the batting isn't actually insulation. I think it's used to help hold the liner together while it's being constructed. The batting is sewn into the liner only around the seams-

I tried on the X-larges and I'd say wait until the larges come in for a 36 (or order now and get a raincheck, probably a better idea). I think the Xlarge would start around 38-40 waist size judging from the ones I tried on. Length is proportional, but it's kind of a crapshoot for me, I'm 33-34 Lengt...

German Police Pants

I'm repeating what I just posted, but this might interest some people: SG also has the three pack of German police pants for $14.99: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=324781 Though they are out of the large size until somewhere around June 15th. I tried the X-large, but they are more for a ...

Yeah, I don't know if you could get the green out and bring out the proper color, but I really like the shirts themselves. Nice tight fit around the torso with high armholes and the "convertable" collar, very period. SG also has the three pack of German police pants for $14.99: http://www....

3-pack semi-close enough shirts...

I think these could be made to look halfway decent if they are re-died:
