Back into Indy with a new pair of Aldens!
I've been out of commission for months now - building a new house, in a new job, back in graduate school at age 57, burying the dog, raising the kids. But today I got a notice from Shoe Mart in CT that they had 405 2nds in my size and, even better, that they would only charge me $160 because fo the ...

Hilarious auction offering - NO LINK
This just hit my funnybone. This really made me laugh! You went all the way to Rome, the cradle of civilisation, and took pictures of your boots! I can relate to the urge, though. When I went to the Middle East in 1966, all of 16 years old, I took pictures of my Bass Weejuns (the Aldens of my set back then) in Rome, at the Pa...

I remember going through my father's WW II memorabilia and finding the sunglasses he wore in Europe. They had celluloid or plastic frames. I know you can still get those glacier glasses (the really dark ones with the leather bellows at the sides) in a lot of mountaineering stores. Speaking of nothin...

It may have to do with head shape and hair texture. My head is roundish and my hair fvery fine, and my hat comes off in high winds. My hair is actually so fine that those spikey things (barettes? I'll have to ask my daughter) just slide out as well. See Conan Doyle's The Blue Carbuncle for a discuss...

The best distressed jacket I ever had was a real (!) WW II fighter jacket I bought in 1966 or 67 off a rack of about 100. $40 each  I should have emptied that rack! I dunno - predistressing clothes kind of feels to me like those dueling students of Heidelberg ripping out their stitches and rubb...

The problem with my Mark VII is that it really does work better as a purse than a gear bag. (Sorry guys!) There just isn't that much room. A messenger bag or some other large bag is more practical for a briefcase, but then you open up the whole over or under the jacket thing. I like that Halo 3 bag,...

Thanks! I made several long guns for my kids out of 1X6 I was just looking for pics for inspiration. I found a place where you can get a set of Webley grips for $19 ( HERE ) but no source yet for a lanyard ring. If I can find one of those, I can make a reasonable mock-up for display, until I can get...

Dummy pistol
Has anyone tried to make a dummy pistol (I don't mean an accurate repro)? If so, it would be nice to see some pics of the process and finished product. I often see grips for far cheaper than a real gun or repro, and thought it might make a reasonable holster-stuffer. This would be a nice alternative...
