Re: What whipmaker is this from?
Yep, I think Bernardo is right. I can't be completely 100% sure based just on the photos, but I'm fairly certain that it looks like one of the ones I made a couple years ago around that time for a company in Germany. They told us that one the whips they'd bought from us in that style was sold to the...

He's too cute... great video, Bernardo. I can tell he's been paying attention to the older whipcrackers in his life! I wonder how old he'll be when he actually starts getting a crack!?

I haven't cracked a Midland or Classic Indy Bullwhip yet, but I have cracked a good handful of nylon whips, and I've always been impressed with the bullwhips Steve Huntress makes - consistently well made, firmly braided, and nice to handle. Here's a picture I labeled of a 10ft Indy whip I made. Hopefully it'll help to get you started with the terminology associated with bullwhips, and specifically the Indy whip. Another key term is "plait," which describes the number of strands the whipmaker braids with. A screen accurate whi...

I don't suppose anyone scientifically knows exactly why a hand-braided whip will have a natural coil direction even before it has ever been "forced" into a coil, but there are theories. First, whipmakers braid on the front of the whip, the side facing us. This allows us to see and manipula...

Price vs. performance though, it's true you would be very hard pressed to find a leather whip being made and sold today, that performs nearly as well as a quality nylon whip in that same price range. So if I have narrowed my choices down to a $200 leather whip or a $180 nylon, since they are about ...
