This Night Represents Every Reason We Got Into Gearheadednes

With the debate over whether or not to wear your gear to the premiere, I thought I would weigh in with my own opinion: I know people have expressed apprehension and reluctance...but the way I see it, if this is not the moment to wear your gear, then when? We have all spent so much time, effort and t...

To pre-empt some criticism, I'll freely admit the following mistakes:

-Overtorquing the cracks
-Cracking on stone dust = picking the grit out afterwards :P

HJ in SOC Bash

Hey Folks! As many of you know, I'm one of those oddball Gearheads who like Herbert Johnsons (ducks the thrown whiskey bottle), so after some tweaking by Todd (hat tip!) here is my HJ in streets of Cairo form: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q233/CarolinaQuitk/IMG_2720-1.jpg http://i137.photobuck...

As the owner of an Bernardo 8ft Raiders I can say that he creates a fantastic bullwhip. I found the weight to be distributed properly, with appropriate heft in the handle, and a nice distribution through the entire length, with a smooth and predictable roll, producing excellent cracks and easy trans...

Sure, the HJ is from Todd's - right now the ribbon has been removed from the brim save for the tack stiches at the bow (I was going to re-stich it myself, but the more I thought about it the more I considered giving her a total refit) - I'd post some recent pics, but I manged to leave her at my pare...

Help for HJ Repair

Hi Folks,

Well I thought I would seek the sage advice of the fellow denizens of this board and see what opinions people have - I am looking for an individual/vendor who would be able to cinch/re-stich my ribbon and give my trusty old HJ a ROTLA reblock. Any thoughts?

The length of the one I got was 8 feet, and when it comes to weight, I'd say it has a good heavy feel to it, and the weight distributes nicely. There isn't a portion of the whip that feels light or flimsy. Plus with the plaits as nice and tight as they are, it really feels like one piece of 'roo :P

I didn't have any problem; it was delivered to me via the USPS. Bernardo quoted me a shipping fee and took care of the rest. The box had its declaration stamp on it with all the approvals, so I assume it was smooth sailing.

Bernardo del Carpio's Raiders 8 foot kangaroo! Pics!

Were to begin? - my quest for a true Raiders whip has finally succeeded. I had always loved the old Morgans, but I also couldn’t afford the premium attached to his long-handle models. So I did my research and found Bernardo's site. He was greatly helpful during the selecting and ordering process (po...

Aeris, thanks so much for your post - it gives hope to us HJ owners! I feel that having an HJ is like having a early British sports car - sure there’s a lot a maintenance involved, and yes, there are a lot of modern alternatives that you could say are "better", but at the end of the day, t...

Richard, Yeah, its a great technique. I've been building scale models for about 15 years now, and drybrishing is a great way to add oil streaks, soot stains, or metal wear. I tried a dry brush of a Testors aluminum buffing metalizer, but I think the surface of the plastic was too smooth for the pain...

Yeah Richard, the thought did occur to me, but I weighed it against not being able to have the spring-loaded connector piece to the cylinder function properly, so I hunkered down with the pipe saw. :P

I find it very interesting to see the splotchy dust stains on the Raiders pants in the flying wing scene - the contrast they provide could be very helpful if someone was as in-depth to isolate the color of the sand vs. the contrast to the pants...might isolate the true color… Or I might be over-thin...

Holster Mystery

Hi Guys! When my brother and I went to MGM Studios last week (see post in Scrapbook for more on that) I noticed a familiar looking holster in the Indy Stunt Show gift shop behind the register. I got the girl working there to let me take some pics, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this might be ...
