Re: Wested Boots Sizing Help

Follow up, got the boots, arrived in MN in just 7 days, not bad! My thoughts on the Wested boots vs Alden 403s: For me the Alden has much better arch support, I don't think the Wested has a steel shank like the Alden (maybe the Westeds use to?), as I can push the sole at the arch and easily feel it ...

Re: Wested Boots Sizing Help

FYI for those thinking about getting a pair of Wested boots, they are currently on sale through their ebay store and will be on sale "until around Friday" according to Wested when I emailed them today. With ship they are around $146 to the states, that's about as good as it gets with the s...

Re: Wested Boots Sizing Help

I've been thinking about getting a pair of Westeds too, though like most everyone else I'm questioning the sizing as being located in the states I want to avoid having to return/exchange for different size. I'm a brannock 11D (just shy of 11) on right foot, left is closer to 10.5D. Most of my shoes ...

Re: Tried on Aldens

For an update, there's 4 sellers listed in MN on Alden's website, all in the twin cities metro area (about 1 to 1.5 hr from me). After the first experience (and snooty salesman that put me off) and your guy's encouragement, I called up the other stores listed. One only sold their own makeup indys, o...

Re: Tried on Aldens

I will say I wasn't too impressed with the quality control on two pairs of 403s I tried on. The 10.5 had a 1" section of white thread in the welt that was gnarly, pulled and frayed. The 10 was over-stitched about 1/2" past the welt on one side. I saw another user's post about recent QC iss...

Re: Tried on Aldens

They didn't have 11 in stock, but everything I've read straight from Alden to even the sales guy (said he was the "Alden guru") said the Alden truebalance last runs large and they recommend to size down 1/2". I was even going to try a 9.5 out of curiosity, but didn't have that in stoc...

Tried on Aldens

Haven't posted in here in ages, the only gear I wear these days is my Wested raiders jacket on motorcycle (rarely). Retired the fedora in favor of Tilley T3 which I wear all the time in summer. Spring cleaning got me into replacing old worn out footwear and after a while got to thinking of Alden 405...

How It's Made: Stetson Hats

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I thought I'd let anyone who's interested know that last night there was a "How It's Made" episode on Discovery channel showing "Baseball gloves, Medical electrodes, and Stetson hats." They showed all the steps in making hats from ...

Any chance of getting a zoomed-out picture of the sweat band?

Prefect display piece IMHO, don't change it! Just sayin'...

Thanks

Humm, there is a Red Wing shoe store a few minutes away... well maybe I found a new boot to get
unfortunatly it's not on the US site but rather the international, there's no price, and it has the steel toe.

Carolina boots

I saw this post about a month ago about the Carolina boot, I havn't heard anything since. http://www.indygear.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7148 I think they look great and am tempted to get a pair, but I looked around a few online stores and it seems most places don't have this style anymore. I'm curious, how are you getting the blocks in these sizes?

I too brought up all these questions when I bought my first (and only) Wested a while ago (got mine about 4 years back i think). I ended up going with the Wested Pre-Distressed jacket mainly because it's heavier (for northern weather), and because I didn't want a new looking jacket, I wanted a worn ...

Fedora told me a while back about the lampshade trick, as I remember he said to flip out the sweat band, wet it, place a paper towel or similar inside the hat to keep from melting the satin or any plastic inside (especially in your Akubra) and let it sit on top of the lampshade for 10 min periods un...

Drape on Wested trousers

I haven't seen a picture of these on anybody yet, can someone comment on the drape? Raiders accurate? Do they give that slightly baggy appearance as in the Cairo scenes? (Hard to describe, but where they almost appear to be heavy in the bottom hem).
Thanks,

3ThouBucks, is it important to have the cut-down sweatband to achieve this over-tightened ribbon effect? I have the same hat as you, but am a little reluctant to cut it in half, even though I'm going for the perfect Raiders fed too. Also, in what places did you make a stitch to hold the ribbon? Thanks

I'm guessing he means the chest size, which was a bit tight on my jacket when it's zipped up all the way. I ordered a 38 from Peter, same as my jacket size. As for your question I don't know how much more to add, sorry. I would assume an inch and a half would be plenty added to your normal jacket si...

Pyro - If you watch the making of Raiders DVD, fast forward to the scene where Deborah is talking about the hat. I bought the LLBEAN chinos, natural fit pleated about 1 1/2 ago, maybe longer... anyway the crease is still there, and pretty defined too. Takes away the worn out 'Indy' look a bit. I'm curious, what has everyone been using/buying for their Indy trousers lately?
