All my hats have to be "turned" just a little bit anyway. The pinch has to be towards the bow just a bit to match my face, which apparently is off centered on my head... Hard to say exactly just how much, you just have to put the hat on and try it, and move the pinch around till it's where...

Even still, after wearing the hat quite a bit, rain and shine, it is about 4 1/2" high at the front pinch, and 4 3/4" high center sides. It has lost a good bit of its bell shape...not so much from shrinkage, but from the center crease inexorably sinking down, drawing the sides in with it. ...

I think "turning" only works for some people. On others, perhaps not so much.

My hat is automatically "turned" just a bit...sort of. I have to put the pinch off just a bit towards the bow to begin with since my face is a bit off center of my head... :roll:

This one (like others) is just way too big.

Now, other Akubra hats seem to be sized more "correctly" than the Federation.... My 58 Squatter was considerably smaller than the Fed. It was just ever so slightly large for me when I got it, but now it fits almost perfectly.

I think 8 plaits look fine. 12 plaits look the nicest, I think. I, personally, don't care for the looks of the really fine plaits. 16 or 24 or more. Just me.

Mine's gonna be an 8 plait, which looks nicer than the 4 plait, but still keeps the cowhide plenty strong, I would imagine. :wink:
