Now to burst my own bubble. Doing further research on napa leather, I find that it is, in fact, pigskin. :( Here's some of what I've read, In the past, Nappa has been known as the 'Poor Man's Leather', or the 'Poor Man's Substitute for Lambskin'. Today, Nappa is cutting deep into the mass market and...

Nice! I like the darker color. The finish it has I believe is called "brushed". My new jacket has a brushed finish and seems to feel just as you described.

Thanks for all the kudos! The hat was given to me from a friend who bought it for just a couple bucks at a thrift store. It was a big old cowboy hat until I took off the band, made a block out of scrap lumber, re-blocked it, trimmed the brim and put on a ribbon $1 (natural distressing from spelunkin...

I'll post a pic when I get a chance to take one. If there's one thing that would bother me about the jacket if I were trying to go for more screen accuracy, it's the finish. It has a brushed feel to it, which I personally like, but some of you may not. As far as how it fits me, it is a large and I a...

I really like this jacket! I've seen the same one sold for up to $349.00 but the smart shopper can find it for $144.97 from where I got it. I wonder if mine found its way to their outlet store by accident? I've looked it over twice and haven't found any flaws. Yes, there is that seam. I just found o...

I found this jacket at Sportsman's Guide Outlet. I've been stopping in there for the past 8 years every once in awhile and have bought close enough shirts and pants, but this time I found a jacket. They only had one and it happened to be my size. And here's the BEST part, it only cost me $57! By the...

I agree with Michaelson, get it fixed. You'll never regret it. Personally, I found that trying it myself brings a lot of it's own rewards. I've done a few myself and its great to know there's a piece of my workmanship in there. Ribbons are not too difficult to do and if you mess it up, you'd be send...

Well I didn't see it, but it kind of proves the point, that maybe, just maybe, fedoras don't impress the ladies as much as they do other guys.Cowboys?? I forget what they did in Brokeback Mountain....
That's my wife's opinion, and I'm starting to believe her.

Don't stone me for this, but I kind of agree with her. I don't wear my fedora when I want to appeal to the opposite sex. I don't think it does it for me, and that's not why I wear one. I wear one because I think it looks good, it keeps the sun out of my eyes and the rain off my head. But I don't thi...

Re: just had my first, "that's not Indiana Jones' hat" moment
It's a universal phenomenon. I had a 13 year old kid tell me Indy's hat had a leather band, not a ribbon. Like an idiot I tried to correct him. But he didn't want to be bothered with facts, his mind was made up. It seems you can't change people's perception with facts anymore. People today think tha...

I've had a total blast with my Stetson Temple, wearing it camping, in the rain, in the desert, and everywhere else. I've completely soaked it on at least 4 occasions. I bought it in 2005 I think, the felt is super soft, and never had the color run or the taper issue. Now I'm thinking they sent me so...

Definitely moth in the larvae stage, sometimes called weevils. Now you'll notice that 2 marks means you have at least 2 of these critters. The mark on the left is deeper than the right one, which means it was greater in size. Now if you're going to eliminate the problem, you should actually find the...

I guess I must be wearing my fedora a lot these past few years. The other day I walked out of the house with a baseball cap on, and when my 15 yr old saw me was taken aback. I asked him what was wrong, he said he wasn't used to seeing me in any hat but a fedora.
