403/Adventurebilt side-by-side photo comparison
Can anyone provide comparison photos of the two boots to show the differences? I would be curious to see how "inaccurate" the new 403's are. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/richardsk/DSCF2409.jpg These are my three specimens. 403's in center and Adventurebilt not included. http://i68...

Re: New Alden 405 with darker brown leather.
So, yesterday my new 403's arrived from S.F. Thank you Alden's for taking care of repeat customers and making a custom shoe for them. They are beautiful. They are also no different from the German screen accurate versions as far I can see that a little shoe polish (or dye) can't alter. Let's see, co...

Re: New Alden 405 with darker brown leather.
For those without a wide foot, J Crew has an Indy boot made by Alden for $398. The Alden shop in S.F. as reported has the new dark brown available but not in wide widths. I had the manager place an order months ago when I found out about the new color and they are making a pair in my size, 11 1/2 EE...

Re: Screen Accurate Aldens
Alright, let me clarify my original claim. When I say S.C., I don't mean all of the particulars that are involved in the German shoes. I mean that they are using a brown that is like the brown used in those. For $200 plus less, I'll take these.

Screen Accurate Aldens
Just returned from San Francisco and learned from the Aldens manager that a new color will be in their store later this year. It is a brown that that looks like the special run shoes that are available from Germany. He will e-mail me when they are in and I'll fly up to check them out.

The subject title is also the title of of a movie that has been corrected. B/W, 1960 with George Sanders and alien children - You know the one I'm referring to. "Village of the Darned"

Great opportunity to see the Mark VII in use as a soldier dons his respirator in the beginning of the movie to investigate the boundaries of the contaminated area.

Hello Steve,
Think you can get mine in and out with just a touch up on the brim? Hate to loose her for a few months when its nothing more than my wanting my mistake corrected.

With the new photos you can see the uneven edge that I have done and can't correct by sanding. I don't trust myself to cut any more.

Re: AB redo time frame
I was not happy with the brim when I received my AB so I attempted to trim it myself and did a job that does not please me in the least and keeps me from attempting another try. I also don't like the brim not having a smooth curve to its shape. I don't know what to do to correct it. I would also lik...

AB redo time frame
I need to send my AB back to Steve for some brim work and rebashing (possibly a reblock).
Has anyone had any recent experience doing this to give a rough time frame for repairs?
I'm thinking of taking it to Baron's in L.A. to cut down on turn around time. Any thoughts?

I bought my whip on e-bay and received one that was almost black. As it is only used for dressing in gear, I painted it the correct color. I base coated it a light tan and then darkened it using various shades of acrylic on a cloth. Two years later it still looks great and the paint hasn't come off ...

Now that is a great looking boot. Considering that we, Indy fans, are probably the only ones buying them, it boggles the mind why Aldens refuses to make them in this color. My Adventurebilt withstood the rain in Chicago like a champ. If I dust it with fuller's earth, can it be cleaned with a brushing and a damp cloth?
P.S. I've e-mailed Steve with the same question as he is the man who should know best. Waiting for any insights and suggestions.

I'm on my second pair of 405's and both have had the top stitching come undone at the "break" area. Aldens did nothing about it when mine were sent in for a refurb. I solved the problem myself by using a large curved needle and coming from the inside of the shoe, out over the loose thread ...
