Hack is a super nice guy. Was very personable in an email conversation about sizing back when I got my first jacket in 2005. As a wee 15 year old with a lot of questions he was very patient and understanding! Speaking of Jackets... My russet wings jacket just came in. Very nice leather used for it. ...

Here you guys go, a new Akubra hat, and an my 2 year old PB hat. The Akubra I received from the mail one week ago, and I love the small sweat band. And I love the dry bash I put into it. Not true. I ordered mine with very little stiffener upon request. I have had it a year and abused the @#$% out of it. It's not the stiffener, it is the thickness of the western style felt.

Stiffener! Wool will taper easily, but stiffener will help slow that down. Also there are surprisingly different grades of wool felt. If this is an official Dorfman Pacific Indy hat, it ranges from a low grade wool (Mostly children sizes) and medium grade wool(Most adult sizes). Either one of those ...

Nice looking hat. I can tell the brim is very floppy. A little stiffener will fix that right up. You might want to also lower the crown a bit. That's what I did to mine. It should take all off 5 minutes to do.

The sweatband will shrink tremendously with regular use, so no need to be concerned with that. I did notice the packaging kinda messes up the bash they send it with. Like I said a little water, and maybe some stiffener, and you will get a nice look to it.

There is also a polyester felted material, it is commonly known as "Velt". Dorfman Pacific used to make children's Indiana Jones hats out of this material, but have been discontinued. They have since began making the children's hats out of an extremely low grade wool felt.

Stetson uses buffalo/bison fur felt for some of their hats. I would say judging by the texture it is only one grade above a wool hat. It's very coarse and it tapers very quickly once it gets wet.

Sunlight usually fades colors, so I'd assume it is the same with leather. I know that sometimes wetting leather with water will bring up more dye and darken the leather, but it also dries the leather out. Usually a good dosing of Leather Dressing will bring the life back into the leather. Others sho...
