I'm gonna take your advice...
I'll get it if I can for less than $25 shipped, just to compare (same reason why I've got the Kenner, LJN, and Disney figures).

Felt thicknesses and making a raw edge

Is there a way that makers/purveyors indicate thickness or floppiness? Like a number/unit (50x or 4.5mm) or something? Or is it a function of the amount of sizing/starch imbued into the felt? Can you just take the ribbon bumper off of a (non-raw) edged hat--assuming you do it carefully--and convert ...

thought you weren't looking for anything that said "Indiana Jones" or had any official logo on the fedora and that you orderded an Akubra. You change your mind? Nah. I got the Federation, and I'm pretty happy with it. Though, I must say that now I'm eying other hats to buy next. I'm sure ...

The current "official" hat...is that the Disney one? Is there only one company making the licensed "official" hat?

...and it's in great condition, even though I only got the "Very Good" one. Smells like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I've got a question for all of you who've modified one: How the #### do you get the webbing strap off, without cutting it or the ring? Any body have pictures of how th...

Raw Edge

Thanks to those few that were (extremely) helpful looking for an Indy lid. Bought the Akubra (the gray colour is perfect). Thinking about trimming the brim a bit. It's a rabbit fur felt. I think they say it's raw edge. Does this mean I can cut it with some sharp scissors (VERY carefully) without the...

Many thanks. Sorry if I violated protocol. I just thought yours and Prairie Jones' are the best looking (according to what I'm looking for) lids I've seen, 'sides what Harry wears. Man, I want an Akubra, but trying to figure out how many DVDs I'd have to sell to get one is hurting my head. Oh well, ...

Which hat adorns your noggin' in your sig pic?

What techniques did you you use to shape it that way?
Cold water spray or steam?
Off center turn?
Tape in fron and back?

No, I'm okay with wearing most fedoras. That said, I'm here 'cause I want a hat that can be worn while doing yardwork or climbing, but also could be worn to a semi-formal/formal event, and every day. I like the untapered look (from the front), I like the wider brim, I like the dramatic swoop when do...

Best o' the Bags

Hey all. Just wanted to see what people thought about some replica bags. Who all makes them? Links? (WPG is no longer on the links page, and no others are listed) No link for Todd's, either. What's the "best" repro strap out there? What's the "best" repro bag out there? sound off!

Height of crowns of Akubra Federation

Can we get a consensus from everyone who's bashed an Akubra Federation (or deluxe) on the various crown heights (nadir in crease, apex of crown in front, height of back)? I'm considering the Federation, but I'm concerned about the height. Anybody know the original BASHED height of the Raiders and Cr...

Do we know how tall the crown of the original Raiders hat was, when bashed? I saw the crown height of 5.5", but it appears that this is unbashed. Front crown height? Middle of trench height? Back crown height? Basically, the only question know revolves around the fact that I think the Raiders h...

Getting warmer...

So, can the federation be "bashed" into a teardrop top at home (with NO special equipment or exceptional skill)? I assume the dramatic swooping is just caused by bending the rim at the right angles when using cold water sprayed on...? Or is there a better method? I was informed that most o...

Thanks again, all. I think I'm getting closer to my first hat. I noticed this thread has gotten a little off-track (not really, I suppose -- we're still talking Indy fedoras, yes?), so I'll ask some more specific questions: I've noticed most "Indy" hats are in a milk chocolate color. Howev...
