Re: Camptown conundrum: I could really use some help
Thank you for the kind words, everyone. What can I say, John is magic. He most certainly saved this hat. I have been wearing it pretty much non stop for the last few days. I have noticed lately that there are many many more fedoras showing up out on the streets, however they all seem to be the same ...

Wow, that really does look beautiful. I rather like the darker gray colour, personally. John did a bang up job again. Even the front dents are better defined and have have more character. Very nice!

Re: Camptown conundrum: I could really use some help
The conundrum was well documented in the first post, Bink. You are witnessing the solution to the conundrum here. The hat that I had ordered from Camptown was the wrong size from the get go, even thought Ken had insisted he changed the size. I was un-convinced because of a few statements he made, ho...

Re: Camptown conundrum: I could really use some help
Well, I got my Camptown back from BendingOak. I am one happy customer. Perfect fit. Sure it's no longer an Indy hat, but it is one I can at least wear, and with pride. Seeing this hat on my head has made me even more hungry for one of his Beaver Raiders lids. Oak is a man who knows his stuff. Thank ...

Well said, Mountaineer. I feel the same way. You know, I have never actually been chased down the street by a crazed person with a measuring tape. See, I look at the over all garment and never fretted over the details mentioned by VP. Annnnd in the year and 3 months that I have had the jacket, been ...

Re: Todd's Jacket Owner's Thread
Can't speak for the others, but my back panel doesn't meet at the seam. As for the straps on mine, I was letting them sit so loose to try and combat the billowing action pleats. That and also I heard that they can pop if they are cinched up too tight. they have been that way for so long I just got u...

I have had my Todd's standard (it's a medium) for a little over a year now and absolutely love it. It just gets better with age.

Re: The "Turn" - Is it a Raiders Standard?
Personally I love the look of the turn but don't have a hat with one. I tried in the gray wool felt hat I have however there is a plastic ring in the brim and it refuses to allow the brim to warp or droop in a way I like so I cannot put the turn in it. I've tried, it just doesn't keep. Of course onc...

Any tips on getting rid of any obvious 'I used sandpaper' lines in the jacket if you get them? And also just because I want to cover the bases, what about tearing the leather? Good, bad, easy or hard to deal with? Just curious.

I make no apologies for the trim I did, and I would do it again in a heart beat if I felt it necessary. I'm a hands on kind of person, you don't learn if you don't try anything. This is what I don't appreciate it's the feeling of being scolded for what I did.

I know I am in good hands, and I know I will have a great hat. I didn't take much off the brim at all, but Oak said that on a brim an eighth of an inch may as well be a mile. I didn't want to challenge him because I know he knows better than me. He explained his trimming process and I didn't leave h...

Re: Camptown conundrum: I could really use some help
I did have a good talk with Oak about my hat. He basically told me that in the end I will have a wearable hat, but most likely not and Indiana Jones hat. He's going to have to remove too much of the brim or something to that effect. Apparently even the little bit I trimmed off the brim was enough to...

Here's a method I know works to size down a hat. If you have a hat that fits you right, take a leather belt and put it around the outside of the crown, down against the brim until its tight. Make a new hole if you have to in the belt to put the buckle through. After taking the ribbon, liner and swe...

you can make big hats smaller. a reblock of this nature would mean a complete tear down and rebuild of the hat. i'm assuming oak and steve have pretty long lead times and i thought steve didn't do reblocks on non-AB's. Camptown conundrum: I could really use some help
Hi everyone, I recently received my Camptown Legend 57. Thisis an absolutely gorgeous hat. The felt is soft and beautiful and it took a bash with little effort. Best hat I have ever owned. The catch? I can't wear it. After months and months of waiting the hat arrived, sadly, too big for me. I have t...

And how's the bash coming along? I figure outside un-biased eyes will give me a real sense of how the hat really looks. this ...

Yes it is true, though not as 'good' of quality as the Wells, the Todd's gloves have taken more abuse than I thought they would. I can't deny that. They are actually leather after all, just not as thick as the Wells ones. And they certainly do look the part. I still feel 'Indy' with Todd's gloves on...

I would love to make it out to the QM sometime. When is the Florida one happening? As for the whip it's an 8 foot Paul Stenhouse I was able to acquire from a friend.
