Thanks Steve, this is pretty much the state of mind I'm in now. I didn't buy it just so it could sit on the shelf looking fancy and if it's gonna look like an adventurers hat, then dagnammit, it's gonna smell like one too! (Plus if it does get ruined you might get a chance to get your hands on...

Well, apologies for the thread necromancy, but the run is 2 days away...and the forecast is for RAIN. :? I'm now facing something of a dilemma. One of my main motivations for doing the run was to use my gear for something interesting, but I'm concerned about the effect on the hat if it gets soaked. ...

nothing in a while, one of the guys on here got one supposedly, and it seemed no different then what they were offering before. I guess the best thing to do is get a herbert johnson-put it in a box- and bust it out once a blue moon I'm guessing you might be referring to me ;) Unfortunately my image...

Sweatin' with the Indys
I'm gearing up to do The Oxford 'Town and Gown' Fun Run in May, in aid of Muscular Dystrophy...and was considering doing it in some of my Indy gear. My concern is that sweating in my hat for an hour or so (it's only a 10k run) will do some permanent damage to it...does anyone know if this is likely ...

Why are you wearing the bag over the jacket? Because I knew it would cause controversy on the board! But seriously, I was just in a rush taking the photos as I had to go out soon after. Either way, it shows off the strap which puts us back on topic for the thread. Glad to be of service...

Was that interior shot of the liner and sweatband before or after you padded it? (I think I understood you stuffed it a bit as it was too big?) The sweatband looks like how my fed deluxe looked when I padded it, but it was smooth and unwrinkled before I did that. After - and to be honest I did it a...

Jpennman, no offence taken sir. When I opened the box, I knew what I saw wasn't going to look good in the eyes of a lot of people here. In a many ways, I see this hat as being like 'Sloth' from 'The Goonies'. While we don't know how Sloth looked when he was born, we do know that he was dropped at le...

I just looked at the pics again, and the felt seems to be nicer than the last stuff they used. Does the brim snap up? It is hard to tell whether they flanged the brim. I would love to play with one to see what it could yield. Looks like a nicer hat than some of the later HJs. Fedora Here's the brim...

How's the sweatband? - Like a piece of cardboard or like a brand new lamb skin from Wested? I'd really like to see how this hat is put together in person... Is the liner stitched in? The sweatband is somewhere in-between, I think. I had to pack it a little as I'd slightly overestimated on size, and...

Re: hat
I won't claim to be a Hat expert but, I think it's the same hat block that they used for my HJ ( That I boaght around a year ago). I don't think it's the same hat block from the 80's movie ( Raiders). What are the measurmenst of the crown ( open )? What are the measurmenst of the brim Front , back ...

Re: cool
A little tweaking with the brim and making the crown have a little more rounded camel humps it should be looking good, the felt does look floppier like the original felt. The felt feels stiffer than I was expecting, although to be honest I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.. Will the hat so...

Well, apologies for the suspense! I was in late from work, my camera started acting up, the light in room was wrong, I got blurry pics, overbright pics, wonky pics, then had to leave the house! So, below are the first pics of my new Fedora, apparently made using the rediscovered Raiders block and us...

Hey Dekker. Have they assured you this is the rediscovered block? Or are you just assuming? And, have they told you they're using the original felt maker with your hat? http://www.swaineadeney.co.uk/ Apparently the hat was being blocked and shaped last monday...is this a lengthy process? What else has to be done to get the hat ready? I really admit to being clueless as to how these hats are constructed, so I don't want to do them a disservice by complaining unduly....

Please take plenty of pictures BEFORE you put in the bash - front, side, back, etc. In my experience, you get the least distorted pictures if you stand as far back from the subject as you can and zoom in to fill the frame. I can't wait to see what they send you. This is pretty much a given. I'm not...

Well, I've just had an interesting email after a few weeks agonising wait. Dear Sir, Thank you for your email.
