SoCal leather tailors?
It's been quite a while since I've posted here...so for all those that may remember me, and for new gearheads as well, hello! But now to the point...can anyone in the Los Angeles area recommend a good tailor who works with leather? Years of wearing my Wested has basically caused the satin lining to ...

Careful with the plaster. You do not want to stick your hands in there to mix it. Plaster contains potassium sulfate, alum, borax, and lime, all of which are more or less toxic. Plaster contains also acetic acid, which is highly corrosive. When plaster hardens, there is an exotherm reaction, which ...

I have made several custom blocks from plaster and have found that it works quite well. I simply use a high-grade artist plaster commonly used for casting and sculpting. You should be able to pick it up at any art supply store. What I do to create the cylinder for the block is to first cut out an ov...

Here's one screen cap I've blown up that demonstrates the point: http://www.whyaxis.net/misc/raiders_zoomed.jpg It doesn't look like a half circle, clearly it is more angular - like the sides of a stopsign. It looks more rounded ...

I have been reading some back posts about this but I have found only a few mentions of a wierd hybrid 1130 that I found today. I was digging through a bucket of old work gloves in a small local hardware shop when I found what looked at first to be the 1123s! The color has no yellow in it, it looks j...

Is it possible to block a hat smaller?
Anyone? I have always blocked my 7 1/8 hats with my 7 1/8 block and I have an old 7 1/4 hat that fits fine (my head size happens to be right between the two sizes) but I am making a new 7 1/8 raiders block that is going to be the definitve block for me and I would like to block this hat on it. SO......

I used acetone on them to strip the sealer and color and then redyed them to a beautiful medium brown. I know most people aren't willing to do this with such an expensive pair of shoes - but it makes a whole WORLD of difference in terms of what they go with. A nice pair of true brown shoes goes with...

John, If you have the American Cinematographer/ Raiders issue, there is a pic on page 1107 where you can make out the Xbox on both ends. So, at least you can say it's screen accurate both ways. Really!? That might explain why I thought I might have seen it both ways in the film. I can't seem to gra...

It is on the outside on the BACK of the jacket panel. What I was refering too, and what mechinyun cleared up is that on the SIDES of the jacket, near the hand warmers, the straps go under the seam. In the pic you provided, you can't see this. The picture below demonstrates what I mean. Today's Weste...

Raiders Side Straps...Over or Under?
I recall that in Pattersons screen-used jacket observations he noted that the side straps go UNDER the seams closest to the hand-warmer slits - as opposed to over the seams and sewn on the outside of the jacket like in today's Westeds. I have been scouring my Raiders DVD and find that I really can't...

I recently purchased a pair of Aldens that actually fit me and I love them to death although the one thing that bothers me is that compared to my ill fitting old pair, which now reside on the feet of my dear old dad, the color is just too red! Another thing to keep in mind about the zipper is that the screen-used jacket had a zipper that went almost all the way down to the bottom of the jacket hem, whereas the Wested (and FS) stops about 2 inches short.
