Re: 3.5 foot mini Bullwhip
Ive cracked whips in the snow and they have been ok but where I live we get the lake effect and with that and the wind chill we get into the negative degrees and it's waaaaay too cold to want to go outside and crack them. Burrrrr!

Re: 3.5 foot mini Bullwhip
Hi Riku1914, yes, all whips get tested before being shipped out. I like what these smaller whips feel Like, much quicker to use. I prefer any whip 6 feet and under since that's all I use. I have a couple whips from other whipmakers that are 8 and 10 feet but I never cared for how they handle compare...

Ok I see what your talking about, it does look weird? I'm not sure why it looks that way in the photo. Kinda wish I had the whip to take a better photo. In the one section it looks like there are 3 little strands. So much for that photography class I took! Oh well. It looks better in person.

Re: 3.5 foot mini Bullwhip
Hi all, The reason for this is that the customer wanted the knot this way. It is meant to be a one pass knot with a wide strand and a thin strand that runs next to it. I have done a few knots this way on other whips usually the thin strand is another color but on this it's the same color. If you che...

Re: Preparing veg. tanned leather
Hi All, I would suggest using just plaiting soap, When I first started whipmaking all I had was a tub of Fiebings leather dressing and thats what i used and I found that it made the strands harder to get a good grip and I think its a waste of good leather dressing to use for the plaiting and it puts...

Re: Chosing a whip based on height?
Here's what I'm going to do I'm going to simplify this whole conversation and answer all the questions. The best whip to learn on you have two choices (1) a 6 ft whip. (2) a 7 ft whip. These lengths are good for all heights and can do alot of different style of cracks. But wait... What about indoor?...

Re: Chosing a whip based on height?
I would ask the person what they plan on using it for? I don't really know if height has anything to do with it depending on what you plan on using it for. indoor use, wraps, target work, fast whipcracking, etc.... I myself would say for an Indy style whip to do the Indy cracks an 8 foot whip but fo...

Adam,
You have to go to the Fish Market and watch them throw the fish around! maybe pull out a whip and cut one in half while its flying through the air!
just a thought.
Have fun!

Caber, Ok what you want to do with this after you have completed the last pass of the knot is to cut the strand VERY CAREFULLY as close as you can to the knot. A little bit might show but that is ok. You want to make it look as if you cannot see the beginning and ending strands sticking out of the k...

Turks head knot: after you have tied the knot on go back with a lacing fid and take out any slack that is left in the knot, i do not use any tacks to hold these in place as these should be held on by the pressure of the knot so everything must be tight just like braiding the thong you want it tight ...

Howdy caber, I would say either the keeper is not tied on tight enough, the string you use to wrap around the leather keeper at the end must be tight almost to the point of hurting your fingers while wrapping it on, I use a wooden piece of dowel rod and wrap the string around it and use the dowel as...

I think it all depends on the whipmaker, and the materials used, only because its lighter than a Morgan whip does not mean its not a good whip. I have used 2 to 3 oz veg tanned cowhide for the bolsters and I have used 1.5 oz kip hide for the bolsters and also done some whips with all roohide for the...

Well, I have to say. For $100 that doesn't look like a bad whip! How does it crack? BUT: For a beginner whip I would suggest a 6 foot, 10 inch handle Bullwhip and not a snake whip. You also have to put into consideration the oils and greases that are put into the whip? not everyone uses 100% safe chemical free harmless oils?
