Re: Webley WG COW "27" pistol project!
Got mine today as well. #30/50. A perfect fit in my Webley holster. This is a fine replica and it really reflects all the work you put into it. A tip of my fedora to ya and thanks very much.

I tried washing my Todd's brown web with clorox and it hardly faded at all. Then I looked in a drawer I haven't looked in lately and lo and behold I already had a web belt in a kind of orange/tan color. It had a black buckle and tab. Bought it at an Army/Navy store years ago. I swapped buckles and t...

My attempt at an Indy Straw
I found a couple of old straw hats in the attic a few days ago. One was an old Indy straw in a loose natural color weave that was beyond saving except the sweat was in good condition and it still had the Indy plane sticker inside. The other hat was a panama from Country Gentleman bought at Macy's fo...

Can you enlighten the forum on a few things? Like where the felt came from in those days? Did you do the blocking there at the shop? What year did you move from Old Burlington to Bond St.? What was Swales like to work for? What did you think of the fan attention to Herbert Johnson once the fans foun...

The label is pre-1965, the year HJ moved to Old Burlington Street, though from what Mr swales told me, they used liners and sweats from old addresses after they moved. Was the white paper tag under the sweat? The last number after the slash would be the year. It fits the general discription of an or...

I have the same problem with one of my hats. Here's an idea. Take some light sand paper and sand around the brim a little till you get a small pile of felt. Now you have some felt to make a patch, but I haven't figured out the best way to apply it. Maybe the simplest thing would be to get a piece of...

They were at 38 New Bond St the first half of the 20th Century until 1965. 13 Old Burlington from 1965 til late 80s-early 90s? 30 New Bond til mid or late 90s 54 St James currently Swales would do the IJ on the sweat on demand as far back as the Indy hats go. I asked him to do my initials on one sid...

Dakota, check this one out. The blue crest was used at 13 Old Burlington. I have one like that. It's a gray trilby with a sticker date of 1978. I've thought about transfering the liner and sweatband to my Todd's HJ to make it look more authentic. So for a while, HJ used the same small blue shield u...

My Optimo Indy was discoloring at the intersection of the top and front creases. I tried Marc's trick of putting the hat on my block, moistening the felt, ironing, and going over it again with the washcloth dipped in ice water, and the lightened spot was rejuvenated. You do have to re-bash after thi...

A few years ago, someone made up a fake receipt from a leather company and sold it on ebay as an insert for the grail diary. It supposed that Henry Sr. bought the leather jacket while in England circa 1920, and sent it to Indy, who was in college at the time in Chicago. Further sentimental attachmen...

I'm just guessing, but we know that by LC, they had switched to the burgandy hexagon and by the time they were at 30 Old Bond St., they had switched again to the burgandy oval. My belief is the move from 13 Old Burlington was the beginning of sourcing hat shells from Borsalino and the takeover of Sw...

If the paper tag is still under the sweatband it should have the last two numbers of the date the hat was built. If not the older ones are from 38 New Bond Street (pre 1965). Indy era -- 13 Old Burlington St. 1990s can be 30 Old Bond St. or 54 St. James St. where they are still as part of Swaine Aid...

Here's a pic from a few years ago. A standard Federation, a Miller and a Peters Brothers. The Fed had that greenish tint under certain lights till I set it out every day for about three months till it faded. the PB is the only one I still have. This pic is a good example of the color differences. ht...
