Re: Custom winter jacket?

I made this illustration of my vision of an Indy winter jacket several years ago. It has the closable sherling collar of the M-422a and hidden knit kuffs inside the sleeves.

Re: Did anyone ever find this jacket?

It´s definitely not a replica of any government issued WWII A-2. Fords Jacket has penpockets on the sleeve and press studs on the windflap instead of a hook and eye on the collar.
Seems to be a modern day civil version of the A-2 and two sizes too big on Ford. ;)

Re: KotCS Backpack (UPDATED thread on Germany Army Rucksack!)

I reading through this thead I couldn't find a model number for this German rucksack. Sort of like our beloved gas mask bag is called the Mark VII, what would this ruck sack be called? The M47 or something similar? Cheers! Dan To be precise it´s not the bag that is called MkVII but the gas mask the...

Interesting photo. By the uniform and Gas mask it may be older than a Mk VI bag even I found out the mask in the photo shows the british Small Box Respirator 2nd Model from 1915. Just for those who are interested. ;-) http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a66/Bullitt1979/Indy/SmallBoxRespirator2Modell.j...

MkVII bags have this little loop unless it was removed for some reason. The MkVI got a metal ring, as shown in the pic below. A string was attached to that loop. The string was supposed to go arround the wearer´s back and than wrapped round the metal disc on the bag when the gas mask was in use. htt...

Just want to add one more thing. The FS A-2s do all have cotton knit cuffs and waistbands. The USW have synthentic knit cuffs. The cotton ones are much more durable and can still be in good shape after years. The synthetic cuffs begin to fuzz after only weeks of wear and lose their tensibility. That...

Last winter I had the idea of an Indy winter jacket. It´s a ANJ-4 - M422a - Indy- hybrid. It´s lined with mouton and has a closable mouton collar and knit cuffs inside the sleeves. I made this Photoshop prototype back then. Maybe this is something for Wested to offer? 8) http://i9.photobucket.com/al...

In case you do not have a long head the only way to get reverse taper is to turn the hat. This is not entirely true. When I recieved my first AB in June I got the wrong size. Steve asked me to send the hat back and exchanged it immediately with a new hat ...

It´s hard to tell by pics (in case you post some). But you could make some close up pics of different areas of your jacket. We might tell from the graining of the leather. Goat has a very smooth surface and goat can have a very heavy grain.

Alpha Industries had the contract for the M-65 till 1990 when the jacket was replaced by the ECWCS-Parka that was also made by Alpha.
I´m not sure if Alpha was the only contractor at that time, but Alpha was definitely one of them through the 80s.

I would have taken the ANJ-4 for reference. It looks much more indy without the shearling on the cuffs and waist.
