Re: Who actually shoots their 1917 revolver?

Alright, range report. Hogue grips helped a lot. The turn of the century wooden grips are just too small for my hands. I picked up the soft rubber mono grip for a S&W N frame revolver. They add finger grooved grip to the front of the stock grip and are wider also. It was pretty easy to install. ...

Who actually shoots their 1917 revolver?

So, who actually shoots their 1917 and doesn't **** at it? I'm a pretty good shot with 9mm, .40 and .45 semi-auto pistols, but the first two times out with my 1917 have been the lamest. I'm a good 8 - 12 inches off from where I'm aiming. :? Not only am I all over the place, but I also managed to tak...

Re: My Indy Guns

There's also a pretty ugly M1917 on the classified section of the Texas CHL website. Not much bluing left on it and the wrong grip, but some of you might want to take a look. I just got one, so I'm out for now. PM if you can't find the link on your own. I have no financial interest in this item, jus...

Re: My Indy Guns

Where does one look to buy a vintage gun like these? I would love to have the Raiders gun... Here in the U.S., you can find many real vintage guns at the online gun auction sites (gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com, among others), one in good condition usually goes for close to what a new one does. ...

Re: S&W M1917 - I hope I did alright!

I got some additional info from an S&W expert over on THR. You have a .45 Hand Ejector US Army Model of 1917, with the frame manufactured between Sept. 17 1917 & January 1919. The grips on your gun are correct for a commercial sale prior to 1938, but it lacks the S&W logo on the left sid...

Re: S&W M1917 - I hope I did alright!

Back to your gun, just put it in a longer holster as this is a gun the character would have used regardless of the barrel length. After all, what would Indy do? He would use and make good use of everything around him. Since this piece is from that period, it naturally works! Great find! Thanks for ...

S&W M1917 - I hope I did alright!

Yay, I got this on GB, should be here Thursday. Even had the right grips on it, so no added expense.

Can anybody tell me about doing a barrel swap? I don't want to chop down the original. Where do you even get a spare barrel??

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Just got an Inglis BHP

In the display case they have an Inglis BHP with the stock/holster and another stock/holster for sale. So, I put the stock/holster on lay-a-way. I'm going to take the pistol over and make sure it fits right before I take it home. So, I got a pretty historical and Indy related piece and I now own mo...

Re: Just got an Inglis BHP

Alright, so I've got the FFL transfer all arranged and I should have better photos later this week. Anyway, I'm out running some errands on Sat afternoon and I stop in this little strip center gun shop I've been meaning to check out for a year. In the display case they have an Inglis BHP with the st...

G&B Flightsuit experience was very good

My wife bought me the Flightsuit Expedition goatskin jacket for Christmas. We ordered it the week after Christmas and they told us they were out of stock, but would be in the 2nd week in Feb. We said OK and gave them our credit card number which they did not charge until the jacket shipped. My wife ...

I ordered a pair of Panto chestnuts today from a local shop here in Austin. They are just reading glasses for me, so I didn't want the wire wrap arms. I called Berkshire Chase and was told that the "polo" arms are the skull style arms that are chestnut covered over the entire arm. I bought...

American

I think he would have gone with one of the major American watches at the time. Either a Hamilton, Elgin or Waltham. Or something like the Mallory watch. He'd use a wristwatch in the field. I have a 1935 Hamiltion with a 982 movement and it still keeps very good time, so there is no compelling reason...

ThunderQuack,

The only reputable straight razors mfgs left are Dovo in Germany or TI in France. Anything else is really dangerous and the steel will not hone correctly and just shred your face. Dovo manufacturers for Col. Conk and other brands in the $70-100 range or so.

Hi Guys, I thought I'd make my first post to this thread since it's a subject I know pretty well. I've been shaving everyday with a straight razor for about a year now. First, it's not that dangerous. I started from scratch, didn't really know what I was doing and I've only cut myself a few times in...
