Re: Post your Adventurebilts here!

Been a long time since i looked into this forum, nice to see all the AB hats being received except for the fact that i've been waiting on mine for about 9 years give or take. Very disappointing exercise all round. I'm still living under my akubra feds.

Re: Post your Adventurebilts here!

Quite some years since i have posted on this forum, could not help but take a peak and see that steve delk is sending out new hats to recent orders. My order was about three computers or about eight years ago, full payment at the time. Tried a couple of emails over the years, learnt that steve was b...

Tnitz, thats pretty much how i handle the rear end of the brim, though with the use of a clean chopping board and a dampened cloth between the iron and the felt. Mar, i reckon it's an excellent bash irrespective of which way the rear is sitting, just gives you more scope to experiment with, cheers c...

Looks great. An akubra a touch big is far better than a touch too small. You can put foam strips under the band, or dampen the band/ribbon area and the hat will shrink a little and will conform to your head as you wear it, but wear it you must. cheers chauvel.

Mark Seven, for a first effort at a bash and trim- outstanding i reckon. It looks like YOUR hat, not someone elses. If you were concerned at too large a fit, don't be, foam cures that problem, as well as the fact that a felt hat always wants to shrink a little, best remedy is to wear it a lot, and i...

With advancing years i tend to have reverted to longer hair(whilst i can), and this seems if anything to be kept neater by the fact that i have been wearing my hat, i am an everyday hat wearer.cheers chauvel.

Welcome Deneveon, if that is your pic in your avatar i'm inclined to think that perhaps you may be a little too dainty and feminine for an akubra federation, it's dimensions would make it appear a little too outdoorsy. A very close female aquaintance of mine here in sydney wears a few different akub...

One thing australia has in excess is wild rabbits, an introduced species and a terrible impact enviromentally. Akubra have always contracted teams of shooters who "spotlight" overnight, and i believe the meat becomes petfood. As for importing hides , if indeed true, this could only be a re...

The sandpaper is your brim's saving grace, and jack daniels your own, should you need a little "courage". If i can do the job successfully, i reckon anyone can, trim away! cheers chauvel.

The federation is just one of many pre-war hats made by akubra, though likely called by another name. Akubra made a myriad of high crowned hats in the 20's and 30's. One of my most treasured pieces of footage is a few moments in colour of aussie ww1 vets, most in civvies marching in the anzac day ma...

Regardless of who's error it was , i say if the hat fits keep it. Let me ease your indecision, how many tanks of gas would add up to the price of the hat? What memories do you have of your last x tanks ? likely none, they are vapor now, but the hat, you can mothball it for down the track, or bash it...

Having worn akubras for many years, i can say with all confidence that they do not become larger, they ALWAYS shrink. Go the loose fit, insert the foam strips and likely they will come out within a few months of regular wear. cheers chauvel.

Only too happy to share with you all exactly what Akubra use in their hats to varying degrees of stiffness, very easy, very cost effective and the industry standard, though seemingly kept "secret". The method used is Blonde Dewaxed Shellac dissolved in methylated spirit (in the US i believe...

I concur with all the above, remember an akubra must be LOOSE when new, they will absolutely shrink down over time and use. May i suggest the "baked rabbit method" often employed downunder,i.e. just leave the hat in a parked car on a hot day for a couple of hours and presto , best served w...

B-rush

Sorry to hear of job loss, i still remember that feeling......., however re my hat brush i use a "waproo" shoe brush, but it's bristles are very soft more like a shaving brush, so that repeated use should remove dust and @#$% only and not felt. This particular brand is likely only availabl...

who's afraid of the big bad taper?

VANCOUVER VIC, how refreshing to read your post, i couldn't agree more, outta the box, bash, scotchguard and face the world. I feel that maybe some of us forget that the hat is to protect the wearer, not the wearer protect the hat. Akubra have been acutely aware of this basic philosophy and make the...

another akubra indy hat

The squatter and it's one or two derivatives fall into the category of typical post war low crown styles that akubra adopted as that was the style wanted here in australia after the war. Pre war archival footage and photos show that australia was indeed the land of TALL crown fedoras, the only one o...
