(I am 100% kidding, no offense intended to the fine land of Australia or the aforementioned optical chains :[ ) Ha! None taken! I am absolutely the wrong age for Bluey, and have no kids, but I see how much of a roaring success it is around the world. It's quite incredible to see. Any Bluey derived ...

Re: Indy Glasses with bluelight lenses?
Yes indeed, I think back to my psych days at uni and looking at research into the placebo effect. The power of the mind is incredible. Absolutely wild. Even stuff like witchcraft, voodoo, all of that has 'worked' in the past, often due to how much people believe in what's been done to them. Fascinat...

Are blue light glasses popular in the US? Down here in Australia, our big optical chains generally hold the position that there's no evidence they do anything?

Re: Wested Destiny Jacket Sizing Question
When I bought a Wested Raiders, very recently, I used the OTR measurements for everything according to my chest size (even though I was getting a custom jacket with cotton sleeves and buckles - which they failed to fit, but that's another story), and the jacket turned out OK. Probably the 'worst' as...

Re: Question about Indy’s gun in the Cairo bar scene
Novelisations are almost always based off scripts, so I would suggest it's what was scripted, but somewhere in the filming and edit, it changed :whip: That's certainly possible! I'll have to look through the different versions of the script to see if the scene was written differently originally. It...

Steel bluing is the best known but you can do it to brass as well. Several simple at-home concoctions exist to produce a nice black oxide finish.

To round this tale out, for now, I acquired some gunmetal buckles, and fitted them last night :whip: I know they're not screen accurate, but for a Raiders jacket I like the look a whole lot more than the D-Rings. Looks good! The more you use them the softer the leather gets. Unfortunately the inner sole is still hard and in time will ply to the grid of the rubber sole. It makes for some uncomfortable ridges. But it only happens after some hundred kilometers into the shoe...uh...mileage. I wondered about tha...

OK folks, down one size to XXL and I'm happy with this. Body feels good, with a little room to move. Arms are almost spot on. For the price, this is a good looking shirt, that feels fine to wear. Thanks again all. Today I got out some pointy nosed pliers and bent the sliders. They're stronger than they look and will bend back well. Stolen off Reddit... this is the WPG cowhide jacket for $175. The owner says they hit it with brown Kiwi shoe polish. Without the shoe polish, it's reckoned to be a good enough DoD looking jacket. It could also be that way. I think so. On one side, they aren't going to reinvent the wheel. They're going to be aware of the A-2 - which had been successful for almost a decade at that point - and it's going to be in their thinking. On the other side, a flight jacket needs to be a certain length, ...

Re: Retrofitting Side Buckles
Well the strap has to attach to the middle bar. I can't remember with the Westeds if that bar is held onto the rest of the buckle by a loop that's soldered or braised closed or it's just pressed as a type of butt connection. But either way that's your target. If the ends of that middle bar are just...

Re: Retrofitting Side Buckles
We are on the same page. However, looking at the picture of the buckle on the jacket, you don’t need to create a gap where the square comes together. The slider in the middle of the buckle is what slips through the loop on the jacket. It looks like you’ll have to pry the slider off one side of the ...

I don’t have direct experience working with these buckles, but I think the best way to create a gap is to twist the buckle rather than try to create a gap by pulling the sides apart. Thanks! What we know... - The A-2 started appearing in the early 1930s - The M-421A started appearing in the late 1930s - The M-421A thus has the DNA of the A-2 in it; the A-2 being established for almost a decade prior - Peter Botwright was absolutely thinking A-2 and working with A-2 designs when he made ...

Does horsehide make it a fairly stiff jacket? My jacket is very stiff. Even re-winding 20 years to when it was brand-new, it's always had a particular 'feel' to it, like I'm wearing body armour.
