Re: Was a goatskin jacket ever used on screen in an Indy movie?
My goat G&B Expedition is still going strong after 21 years of regular use. I absolutely love it. Goat may not be screen accurate but it sure is adventure accurate.

Re: Putting the "Action" back in the Action Pleats
When Dave Marshall left, almost all the cutters and pattern people also left, so the chances of the Expedition being resurrected are slim to none, according to the G&B management. :( Regards! Michaelson Sad. I didn't realize Dave was not there anymore. I've been out of this game for quite somet...

It's amazing. I hope to be wearing mine for the rest of my days because I don't think I'll ever see a 'Raiders' style jacket this good again.Michaelson wrote:

Re: Putting the "Action" back in the Action Pleats
I have a Gibson & Barnes goat skin Expedition from 2002 that I still wear regularly and the pleats work perfectly. The jacket is also aging beautifully. I recently went on G&B website for the first time in literally years and was surprised & saddened they no longer offered the Expedition...

Hey, that looks great! Beautiful work! The Pocket Bull that was provided for your reference is one that I made many years ago. It has a shot loaded core with a four plait belly and twelve overlay. I made several of them but I only have one left in my personal collection. It hangs on the hall tree an...

Well, here is the bullwhip guys side of the story. https://rhettswhips.com/2014/01/21/that-whip-guy-of-olympic-college/ Seems the kid even approached the police before he ever attempted to practice (something we all highly recommend) and they said it was fine. The professor went to the police, they...

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. But that's where we are as a society these days.
I wonder how this all ended up?

After a long absence and having just learned of Mr. Botwright's passing I had to sign in and pay my respects. Like so many others, I once owned a famed Wested jacket. I corresponded with Mr. Botwright over 16 years ago as I ordered my custom lambskin Raiders jacket from him. I even sent him lining m...

Re: Rip David Morgan
I am very saddened by this news. I first met David circa 2000. It was around this time that I had bought my first house and finally had a back yard so my interest in whip cracking came rushing back. I began searching the internet for bullwhip information and was amazed by all of the information I ca...

Joe is a phenomenal whip maker. His contributions to the craft will be missed. I wish him all the best.
Haven't made a whip myself in probably 4 or 5 years. Too busy with other endeavors. I do miss it though.

Hey folks, I suppose technically I am still making these whips (and lanyards) but my turn around on them is not that great. I've got a lot of other projects in the works, including my own comic book, and leather braiding has fallen to the back of the line the last few years. I still enjoy it but whe...

Dang, I'm sorry that I missed your visit. I would have really liked to meet up with you in Portland for some whip cracking since I'm right across the river in Vancouver.
Very cool pictures. It's good to see David is doing well. I haven't been up to visit him in a long time.

Re: Whips excessively light!!!!
If it's an Indy style whip and light weight then it's wrong. I've looked at too many whips that people have and they're light and limp and plaited loose by supposedly "good" whip makers. The owners don't know any better. It shouldn't be a brick but there should be a good amount of weight c...

Split decision
I'm looking to get a leather splitter. So I turn to my fellow whip making enthusiasts for advice. What splitter are you using? What did you pay (if you don't mind me asking)? Is Mike Murphy's way overpriced? What qualities should I look for?

It's been the case for a number of years now that David has been slowly removing himself from the whip making process by training others in his place. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Fur felt hats are worn all over the world in hot climates. They breath very well and are much better protection from the sun than many of the cheap straw hats available. The Aussies wear wide brimmed felt hats all the time. They know the dangers of the sun. I think it is odd to say that a felt hat i...

When I make my whips I braid in a third belly right in the core coming off the junction in order to make a stronger transition. So I don't mind the stiffer transition on this whip since that is how I prefer them. But what I really appreciate about Morgan's whips is how he uses a heavier hide and cut...
